Clarithromycin 15 mg/kg per day in 2 doses (adult 250 mg twice daily) Diarrhea, vomiting, rash, abnormal taste, abdominal pain SJ Many drug interactions (inhibits cytochrome P-450 3A4) suspension cannot be refrigerated and has metallic taste same microbiologic issues as azithromycin... [Pg.1066]

Erythromycin- sulfisoxazole 50 mg/kg per day of erythromycin component in 3 4 doses Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, rash SS Many drug interactions (like clarithromycin), contraindicated in children under 2 months increasing pneumococcal resistance... [Pg.1066]

Carbamazepine may interact with other drugs by inducing their metabolism. Valproic acid increases concentrations ofthe 10,11-epoxide metabolite without affecting the concentration of carbamazepine. The interaction of erythromycin and clarithromycin (CYP3A4 inhibition) with carbamazepine is particularly significant. [Pg.604]

Tegretol consists of carbamazepine, which is an anti-epileptic drug. There is a clinically significant drug interaction between carbamazepine and clarithromycin (macrolide antibacterial agent) resulting in higher plasma concentrations of carbamazepine. [Pg.159]

In patients allergic to penicillin, macrolides are usually indicated in mild respiratory tract infections. Zithromax contains azithromycin, which is a macrolide that may be indicated for respiratory tract infections. As opposed to clarithromycin (another macrolide), azithromycin does not present any significant clinical interaction with phenytoin. Ciproxin contains ciprofloxacin. [Pg.170]

When administered concomitantly, clarithromycin and the oral anticoagulant warfarin may interact, resulting in an enhanced anticoagulant effect and therefore increased risk of bleeding. [Pg.302]
