Fine blanking uses special clamping tooling to produce a smooth and square-edged contoured blank or hole. 

Tools using suction to hold a surface ( vacuum tools ) are often preferable to other types of holding tool since they minimize abrasive transfer of material by controlling the force between the surfaces. Clamping tools are available that limit the gripping force. 

Rotary slips Wedging devices used to clamp the tool string into the rotary table. The wedging action is provided by friction. 

Stoking Method of orienting a tool using two pipe clamps, a telescope with a hair line, and an aligning bar to determine the orientation at each section of pipe run in the hole. 

The two most frequently studied compounds with T-type calcium channel antagonist properties are ethosuximide 1 and mibefradil 3. However, the modest potency of ethosuximide ( 200 pM) [48] and the poor selectivity of mibefradil [49] make these compounds suboptimal tools for the investigation of these channels. Guided by a pharmacophore model [50], several analogs of 3 were prepared. Compound 4 represents the most potent compound identified (IC50 8 nM, patch-clamp assay) with good selectivity over the L-type calcium channel [51], Compound 4 showed a modest brain-to-plasma ratio (0.25) after oral dosing to rats at 50 mg/kg. However, no in vivo efficacy assay results have been reported with this compound. 

Taken together, the limited experiments conducted using neuronal cell cultures illustrate a distinct difference in the way that pyrethroids modify ion conductance and subsequent neurotransmitter release under resting and depolarized conditions. Continued efforts utilizing recent new tools like automated patch-clamp systems and MEAs to assess the effects of pyrethroids on the kinetics and voltage-dependent gating of ion channels in primary cultures or transfected cells is likely to provide new insight into the neurotoxicity of pyrethroids [79, 82]. 

Thermoforming is the most commonly used method for volume production today [10]. In this method a special type of reinforcement that is already impregnated with a preforming powder is heated before it is clamped in a cold preforming tool [11], The most common type of reinforcement is continuous strand mat which is manufactured by e.g. Vetrotex and Owens Coming.

Alloy with Memory. In seeking a way to reduce the brittleness of titanium, U.S. Navy researchers serendipitously discovered a nickel-titanium alloy having an amazing memory. Previously cooled clamps made of the alloy (nitinol) are flexible and can be placed easily in position. When warmed to a given temperature, the alloy hardware then exerts tremendous pressure. Use of conventional clamps for holding bundles of wires or cables in a ship or aircraft structure requires special tools. For this and other applications in industry and medicine, nitinol has been in demand. The alloy, however, is not easy to produce because only minor variations in composition can affect the snap back" temperature by several degrees of temperature.
