Rotary tables

Most rigs are now fitted with a system whereby the drill string is rotated by a drive mechanism in the mast rather than by the rotary table at rig floor level. Thus 90 foot sections can be drilled before connections need to be made, and the drill string can be rotated while pulling out of the hole in 90 foot sections. This improved system, which speeds up the operation and allows better reaming of the hole is known as top drive. 

The alternative method of sample extrac tion is termed the ctoss-sti eam samphng method, or ci o.s.s-belt when used in conjunc tiou with a belt conveyor. Sample extraction typically take place with a belt conveyor in motion. However, with a rotary table-feeder conveyor, extractions are made with the table stopped. A cutter can perform extractions by this means from a machined flat surface with neghgible... 

Cross-stream samphng from flat surfaces with material handled on a hnear conveyor or rotary table is best carried out with the conveyor stopped. Sample extraction is then performed by linear traverse. 

Extractions performed with the conveyor stopped allow more assured accuracy by the certainty of including fines in the sample increment. Sampler design to extract increments from a flat belt or rotaiw table sampler while the conveyor is stopped minimizes potential for residual fine particles remaining on the conveyor surface in carrying out extractions. See Fig. 19-6 for rotary table sampler extraction diagram. 

An alternative approach for injection molding is the use of a rotary table injection machine. This type of machine uses the multistation concept, each station having a single cavity mold generally using a point gating/ injection point as previously mentioned. Consider a rotary table machine with eight stations, station one would be the injection station and station seven would be the unload and load metal insert station. This type of process has been successfully used for different types of lip type rotary shaft seals where more expensive elastomers are used and waste needs to be kept to a minimum.

The API requirements for rotary table openings for square drive master bushings and the sizes of the square drive and pin-drive master bushings are specified in API Specification 7 [1]. 

The kelly bushing attaches the kelly to the rotary table. It locks into the master bushing and transfers the torque produced by the table to the kelly. There are two types of kelly bushings [16] ... 

Open the blind rams, and continue to lower the 4 in. liner through the rotary table opening using the casing slips. 

With the 3 in. pipe rams closed on the 3 in. drill pipe, open rotating head and pull the rotary bushings. While stripping with the pipe rams, raise the liner string (with the 3 in. drill pipe) until the 4 in. stripper rubber and the drill pipe joint it is on are above the rotary table. Replace the rotary table bushings and, using the rotary slips, remove this drill pipe Joint with the 4 in. stripper rubber (the 4 in. stripper rubber can be removed from this joint later). 

With this tension on the drillstring, a reference mark is made on the drillstring exposed at the top of the rotary table. 

Rig Practice. All drilling fluids should be contained in the mud pits or reserve pit. The cellar should have a conduit linking it to the reserve pit such that accumulation of mud from connections does not spread over the location. In the case of toxic mud, a bell should be located beneath the rotary table to direct such fluids back into the drilling nipple or into the mud pit in the case of a rotating head. The use of a mud bucket is also recommended in situations where the pipe can not be shook dry. 

All these rotary table machines are perfectly suited for automation using only one station each for unloading of products, cleaning and loading of inserts. 

The horizontal rotary table filter incorporates, as its name suggests, a horizontal rotary circular table divided into segments or drainage compartments, each of which is ported to a rotary valve underneath the table. The top surface of the table is fitted with a filter medium and walls are provided around the periphery of the table and around the hub. The feed slurry is distributed across the table through a feed box and vacuum is applied to... 

Vials are coming from the tunnel out-feed, which is connected to rotary table at the in-feed of the filling machine.
