This basic instrumentation, here described within the context of spontaneous Raman scahering, may be generalized to most of the other Raman processes that are discussed. Specific details can be found in the citations. [Pg.1199]

Handbooks such as Gmelin and Beilstein are often added to the tertiary literature, due to the high degree of processing their information has undergone. However, they are used as citations, and this is why they are integrated within the secondary titerature. [Pg.239]

However, the same oxygen also oxidizes ethane and ethylene to CO2 and other oxygenated products. Therefore, selectivity to olefins is a serious consideration. Literature citations (93,94) claim development of low temperature, highly selective oxydehydrogenation catalysts. Although this process has not yet been commercialized, it seems promising. [Pg.443]

There have been several reviews of literature reports of compensation behaviour [36,521,522]. The observations made are relevant in the present context since kinetic characteristics of surface processes may be applicable also to changes proceeding at a solid—solid interface (i.e., two surfaces). Some of the explanations proposed for compensation behaviour (discussed in greater detail, with citations, in ref. 36) are that... [Pg.96]

Many authors regard chemical micro engineering as a separate, novel discipline (see, e.g., [5]), the term micro-reactor engineering being used already in an early citation [6], What is essentially different about micro reactors, i.e. what differentiates micro-reactor and chemical-micro-processing ... [Pg.4]

Following a theoretical analysis of distributed small-plant manufacture, Benson and Ponton define assessment criteria for processes suitable for such processing [139]. Since micro reactors are one of the favorite and natural tools for distributed manufacture, this selection list also defines micro-reactor applications. In this context, the authors, probably in one of the first regular citations, emphasize that formulation processes, especially those with multiple ingredients, are particularly suited for distribution. The making of paint on-site is referred to as an already existing way to do so. It stands to reason to augment the scope from formulations to functional chemicals. [Pg.103]

Maleic anhydride is an important industrial fine chemical (see original citations in [43]). The oxidation of C4-hydrocarbons in air is a highly exothermic process, therefore carried out at low hydrocarbon concentration (about 1.5%) and high conversion. The selectivity of 1-butene to maleic anhydride so far is low. The reaction is composed of a series of elementary reactions via intermediates such as furan and can proceed to carbon dioxide with even larger heat release. As a consequence, hot spots form in conventional fixed-bed reactors, decrease selectivity and favor other parallel reactions. [Pg.309]

Partial methane oxidation comprises very high rates so that high space-time yields can be achieved (see original citations in [3]). Residence times are in the range of a few milliseconds. Based on this and other information, it is believed that syngas facilities can be far smaller and less costly in investment than reforming plants. Industrial partial oxidation plants are on the market, as e.g. provided by the Syntroleum Corporation (Tulsa, OK, USA). Requirements for such processes are operation at elevated pressure, to meet the downstream process requirements, and autothermal operation. [Pg.322]

The cyclohexene hydrogenation is a well-studied process especially in conventional trickle-bed reactors (see original citations in [11,12]) and thus serves well as a model reaction. In particular, flow-pattern maps were derived and kinetics were determined. In addition, mass transfer can be analysed quantitatively for new reactor concepts and processing conditions, as overall mass transfer coefficients were determined and energy dissipations are known. In lieu of benchmarking micro-reactor performance to that of conventional equipment such as trickle-bed reactors, such a knowledge base facilitates proper, reliable and detailed comparison. [Pg.620]
