Yamaguchi et al. demonstrated the multi-sensitive behavior of the ternary copolymer 8 of [3-(methacryloylamino)propyl]trimethylammonium chloride, acrylic acid, and benzo[18]crown-6-acrylamide. This system controlling thermosensitivity by cation recognition of the crown ether was applied to an ion gating membrane. [Pg.83]

The monomers which have been investigated include methyl methacrylate, ethyl acrylate ester, hydroxy acrylates and methacrylates, acrylonitrile, vinyl acetate, vinyl chloride, acrylamide, vinylidene chloride, acrylic acid, vinyl pyrollidone and styrenec Many copolymer latexes of these monomers have also been preparedc Undoubtedly the most amenable system for model studies is methyl methacrylate in aliphatic hydrocarbono... [Pg.45]

Through the years other monomers have been investigated. The diene commonly employed is 1,3-butadiene, although isoprene, 2-ethyl butadiene, 2,3-dimethyl butadiene, piperylene, and other substituted dienes have been investigated. The nitrile commonly employed is acrylonitrile. It has been reported that when part of the acrylonitrile is replaced by methacrylo-nitrile or ethacrylonitrile, the cement-making properties of the rubber are improved. Small proportions of a third monomer may also be used in conjunction with the two principal components. Hycar 1072, which employs methacrylic acid as the third monomer, is occasionally used in adhesive applications. Other monomers including ethyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, styrene, vinylidene chloride, acrylic acid, N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone, and vinyl acetate have been employed in varying amounts to adjust the adhesive and elastomeric properties. [Pg.207]

Fluorinated surfactants and polymers may have a therapeutic effect of their own. Sawada et al. [180-182] have prepared fluoroalkylated anionic [180,181] and cationic poly soaps [182], The fluoroalkylated acrylic acid co-oligomers containing dimethylsilicone segments [180] and fluoroalkylated 2-(methacry-loxy)ethanesulfonic acid oligomers [181] were found to function as inhibitors of HIV-1 virus replication. A fluoroalkylated 4-vinylpyridinium chloride-acrylic acid cooligomer exhibited both virus-inhibiting and antibacterial activities [182]. [Pg.487]
