The effects of the stationary phase and solvent on the racemization of 2,2 -Z)is-phosphino- and 2,2 -Z)is(phosphinyl)-l,l -biphenyls (BIPHEP) and the racemization kinetics of the 3,3 -disubstitued BIPHEP ligands have been determined by chiral dynamic HPLC (DHPLC) using a novel three-column continuous flow technique. Also, phosphatidylcholine has been determined by ultra performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) with MS/MS detection. ... [Pg.441]

Related results of promotion (catalysis) and inliibition of stereonuitation by vibrational excitation have also been obtained for the much larger molecule, aniline-NHD (CgH NHD), which shows short-time chirality and stereonuitation [104. 105]. This kind of study opens the way to a new look at kinetics, which shows coherent and mode-selective dynamics, even in the absence of coherent external fields. The possibility of enforcing coherent dynamics by fields ( coherent control ) is discussed in chapter A3.13. [Pg.2144]

An alternative model has been proposed in which the chiral mobile-phase additive is thought to modify the conventional, achiral stationary phase in situ thus, dynamically generating a chiral stationary phase. In this case, the enantioseparation is governed by the differences in the association between the enantiomers and the chiral selector in the stationary phase. [Pg.61]

If the amount of the sample is sufficient, then the carbon skeleton is best traced out from the two-dimensional INADEQUATE experiment. If the absolute configuration of particular C atoms is needed, the empirical applications of diastereotopism and chiral shift reagents are useful (Section 2.4). Anisotropic and ring current effects supply information about conformation and aromaticity (Section 2.5), and pH effects can indicate the site of protonation (problem 24). Temperature-dependent NMR spectra and C spin-lattice relaxation times (Section 2.6) provide insight into molecular dynamics (problems 13 and 14). [Pg.68]

The competitive adsorption isotherms were determined experimentally for the separation of chiral epoxide enantiomers at 25 °C by the adsorption-desorption method [37]. A mass balance allows the knowledge of the concentration of each component retained in the particle, q, in equilibrium with the feed concentration, < In fact includes both the adsorbed phase concentration and the concentration in the fluid inside pores. This overall retained concentration is used to be consistent with the models presented for the SMB simulations based on homogeneous particles. The bed porosity was taken as = 0.4 since the total porosity was measured as Ej = 0.67 and the particle porosity of microcrystalline cellulose triacetate is p = 0.45 [38]. This procedure provides one point of the adsorption isotherm for each component (Cp q. The determination of the complete isotherm will require a set of experiments using different feed concentrations. To support the measured isotherms, a dynamic method of frontal chromatography is implemented based on the analysis of the response curves to a step change in feed concentration (adsorption) followed by the desorption of the column with pure eluent. It is well known that often the selectivity factor decreases with the increase of the concentration of chiral species and therefore the linear -i- Langmuir competitive isotherm was used ... [Pg.244]

The Gabriel synthesis represents another indirect but highly valuable approach to amines. Trost has demonstrated a method for the asymmetric ring-opening of butadiene monoepoxide by use of one equivalent of phthalimide, 7t-allylpalladium chloride dimer, and the chiral bisphosphine 22 (Scheme 7.37). The dynamic kinetic asymmetric transformation proceeded through a putative achiral intermedi-... [Pg.252]

Carboxylates, which are chiral in the a-position totally lose their optical activity in mixed Kolbe electrolyses [93, 94]. This racemization supports either a free radical or its fast dynamic desorption-adsorption at the electrode. A clearer distinction can be made by looking at the diastereoselectivity of the coupling reaction. Adsorbed radicals should be stabilized and thus react via a more product like transition state... [Pg.98]

Hydantoinases belong to the E.C.3.5.2 group of cyclic amidases, which catalyze the hydrolysis of hydantoins [4,54]. As synthetic hydantoins are readily accessible by a variety of chemical syntheses, including Strecker reactions, enantioselective hydantoinase-catalyzed hydrolysis offers an attractive and general route to chiral amino acid derivatives. Moreover, hydantoins are easily racemized chemically or enzymatically by appropriate racemases, so that dynamic kinetic resolution with potential 100% conversion and complete enantioselectivity is theoretically possible. Indeed, a number of such cases using WT hydantoinases have been reported [54]. However, if asymmetric induction is poor or ifinversion ofenantioselectivity is desired, directed evolution can come to the rescue. Such a case has been reported, specifically in the production of i-methionine in a whole-cell system ( . coli) (Figure 2.13) [55]. [Pg.39]

The resolution of racemic ethyl 2-chloropropionate with aliphatic and aromatic amines using Candida cylindracea lipase (CCL) [28] was one of the first examples that showed the possibilities of this kind of processes for the resolution of racemic esters or the preparation of chiral amides in benign conditions. Normally, in these enzymatic aminolysis reactions the enzyme is selective toward the (S)-isomer of the ester. Recently, the resolution ofthis ester has been carried out through a dynamic kinetic resolution (DKR) via aminolysis catalyzed by encapsulated CCL in the presence of triphenylphosphonium chloride immobilized on Merrifield resin (Scheme 7.13). This process has allowed the preparation of (S)-amides with high isolated yields and good enantiomeric excesses [29]. [Pg.179]

The dynamic resolution of an aldehyde is shown in Figure 8.40. The racemization of starting aldehyde and enantioselective reduction of carbonyl group by baker s yeast resulted in the formation of chiral carbon centers. The enantiomeric excess value of the product was improved from 19 to 90% by changing the ester moiety from the isopropyl group to the neopentyl group [30a]. [Pg.223]

A peptoid pentamer of five poro-substituted (S)-N-(l-phenylethyl)glycine monomers, which exhibits the characteristic a-helix-like CD spectrum described above, was further analyzed by 2D-NMR [42]. Although this pentamer has a dynamic structure and adopts a family of conformations in methanol solution, 50-60% of the population exists as a right-handed helical conformer, containing all cis-amide bonds (in agreement with modeling studies [3]), with about three residues per turn and a pitch of 6 A. Minor families of conformational isomers arise from cis/trans-amide bond isomerization. Since many peptoid sequences with chiral aromatic side chains share similar CD characteristics with this helical pentamer, the type of CD spectrum described above can be considered to be indicative of the formation of this class of peptoid helix in general. [Pg.16]
