Chinese support

Against this backdrop, Kissinger asked for another meeting with the Chinese UN Ambassador in order to inform Peking fully about our various moves concerning South Asia and to indicate our approval of Chinese support for Pakistan, including diversionary troop movements. In... [Pg.189]

We are grateful for financial support from the Research Grants Council of the Hong Kong SAR, China [HKU 7011/07P, HKU 7030/06P], the Chinese Academy of Sciences-Croucher Foundation Funding Scheme for Joint Laboratories, and the University Development Fund (Nanotechnology Research Institute Program). [Pg.276]

Chinese depressed patients appeared to require lower dosages, with consequently lower plasma concentrations of sertraline compared to Caucasian patients to achieve clinical efficacy (Ng et al, 2006). Again, this finding has supported the fact that Asian patients, especially Chinese, need lower doses of antidepressant drugs than their Western counterparts. [Pg.141]

The author wishes to thank Drs. J.M. Zuo, S.L. Dudarev, X.F. Duan and G. Ren for stimulating discussions and collaboration, This work is supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (Grant No. 19425006) and by the Chinese Academy of Sciences. [Pg.178]

Extensive classified documentation to support these claims was provided to Phillips, along with photographs of Houston involved in sodomizing a terrified young Haitian boy. The Chinese simply did not want Houston involved in the deal, so arrangements had to be cleverly devised to eliminate him. [Pg.15]

We are grateful to all the authors and coworkers cited in the references for their efforts in carrying out the work described in this chapter. We are also grateful to the National Natural Science Foundation of China (Nos 60571042/30370397 and 60171023) and the State Key Laboratory of Transducer Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, for financial support. [Pg.592]

The selectivity in muscarinic receptor coupling is not, however, absolute. Overexpression of receptors or of particular G proteins supports interactions that may differ from those described above. For example, M2 receptors expressed in Chinese hamster ovary cells not only inhibit adenylyl cyclase but also can stimulate phosphoinositide hydrolysis through a pertussis-toxin-sensitive G protein [52] this is not seen, however, when M2 receptors are expressed in Y1 cells. These findings indicate that caution must be exercised in interpreting data obtained when receptors are expressed, often at high levels, in cells in which they normally do not function. [Pg.207]

This work was supported by the Hundred Talents Program of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and National Natural Science Foundation of China (Grant No. 40872168). [Pg.480]

Yu Qiuli is acknowledging the past imbalance of neglect of improving the salary structure because of over-accumulation of capital for industry. China s work force has had its wages frozen for 20 years (1937-1977) and this has seriously undermined worker and peasant incentives. The Chinese government granted salary increases to 40% of its work force in order to enlist worker support in the modernization drive. Now the government must provide a modest increase in consumer durables. [Pg.337]

A high serum Lp(a) concentration was also reported to be a significant risk factor for all strokes in a case-control study in Chinese patients (W20). In conjunction with the associations found between Lp(a) levels and coronary atherosclerosis in different ethnic groups, the latter study and earlier reports strongly support a universal role for Lp(a) in the development and clinical manifestations of atherosclerotic disease in general (M29, W20). [Pg.94]

Chinese respondents indicated that the lack of financial and technical supports are barriers to timely and effective information exchange. Among Chinese respondents, 27% indicated that language is an important barrier to information exchange on POPs but no Americans indicated that language was a barrier. [Pg.46]

It is likely that the predominantly positively charged amino acids of TAT and other CPPs will interact with anionic components on the surface of the cell membrane (85). This idea is supported by the observation that cell association with CPP liposomes in glycosaminoglycan-deficient Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells is greatly reduced and is competitively inhibited by the presence of heparin (88,93). Furthermore, the removal of the heparan sulfate chains by the action of glycosaminoglycan lyase also suppressed the transduction of the TAT protein (94). [Pg.302]

The periodic recurrence of cell division suggests that globally the cell cycle functions like an autonomous oscillator. An extended model incorporating the sequential activation of the various cyclin-dependent kinases, followed by their inactivation, shows that even in the absence of control by cell mass, this sequence of biochemical events can operate as a limit cycle oscillator [145]. This supports the union of the two views of the cell cycle as dominoes and clock [146]. Because of the existence of checkpoints, however, the cell cycle stops at the end of certain phases before engaging in the next one. Thus the cell cycle looks more like an oscillator that slows down and makes occasional stops. A metaphor for such behavior is provided by the movement of the round plate on the table in a Chinese restaurant, which would rotate continuously under the movement imparted by the participants, were it not for frequent stops. [Pg.274]

The Chinese government started an antimalarial research program to search for traditional Chinese medicinal plants to support the Vietnamese army during the Vietnam War (1965-1975). As a result, artemisinin (1) was identified in 1972 as the active antimalarial constituent of A. annua. [Pg.313]
