Some of the many available kinds of size reduction equipment can be described here. Manufacturers catalogs have the most complete descriptions of the equipment and almost always provide typical or expected performance data. Useful compilations of such information are by Taggart (1945) and the Chemical Engineers Handbook (1984, Section 8, as well as older editions). 

Information about equipment sizes, configurations, and sometimes performance is best found in manufacturers catalogs and manufacturers web sites, and from advertisements in the journal literature, such as Chemical Engineering and Hydrocarbon Processing. In References, Section 1.1, Part D also contains information that may be of value. Thomas Register covers all manufacturers and so is less convenient for an initial search. Item 2 of References, Section 1.1, Part D, is of value in the listing of manufacturers by the kind of equipment. Manufacturers catalogs and web site information often have illustrations and descriptions of chemical process equipment. 

Comminution and size separation are characterized by the variety of equipment devised for them. Examples of the main types are described in this chapter with a few case studies. For equipment, it is essential to consult manufacturers catalogs for details of construction, sizes, capacities, space, and power requirements. Textbooks give general information for these operations but there are few generalizations for the prediction of equipment characteristics. A list of manufacturers of this equipment may be found in the Chemical Engineering Equipment Buyers Guide 2004 (2003) as well as on the Internet.

ChemSpider currently searches over 14 million compounds in multiple chemical structure databases. Handbooks provide fast access to information and are an important information resource in chemical engineering. The number of handbooks in the field is staggering and only a few will be listed here. The content of most is evident from the title. Many of the handbooks are available in electronic format as a growing number of publishers are developing electronic libraries for their reference materials. To find additional titles, search a library catalog or an Internet bookseller s list. 

It should be understood that a complete and final catalog of pollutants and their effects cannot be given new substances are constantly entering the terrestrial chemical network, and negative effects often become apparent only after a considerable time. The number of chemical substances for which reasonably complete environmental analysis is available remains a relatively small proportion of the whole in spite of the best efforts of environmental chemists and engineers. Availability of information and data on pollution matters has, however, been much enhanced by the proliferation of enviromnent-related sites on the Internet there are far too matty to attempt to list or categorize here, but the most comprehensive is probably that of the Enviromnental Protection Agency (http //www.epa.gov).
