Chemical Abstracts number

The Chemical Abstracts numbering system of phenazine is used. 

The products have different chemical formulas or structures or chemical abstract numbers (CAS s) than the starting materials. 

Thianthrene is numbered as shown in 1 using current Chemical Abstracts numbering before 1937, the numbering shown in 2 was used in Chemical Abstracts. The ring positions ortho to sulfur have been termed a, and the others are termed y3. Alternative names for thianthrene, found more in older literature, are dibenzo-1,4-dithiadiene, dibenzo-1,4-dithiin, di-o-phenylene sulfide, and diphenylene disulfide. The literature also contains references to o-thianthrene this is dibenzo[c,e][l,2]dithiin, (3).

The CWA also addresses oil and hazardous substances. It expressly prohibits the discharge of oil or hazardous substances in harmful quantities to the waters of the United States. The USEPA has classified 300 hazardous substances according to the levels of danger they present to health and the environment. These substances are listed by their Chemical Abstract Number (CAS ) and are provided by the USEPA. If a discharge of any of these hazardous substances or oil occurs that is above the reportable quantity (RQ) level, the National Response Center (NRC) must be notified. Severe penalties, including jail and fines of up to 10,000, can be issued for failing to notify the NRC. Also, the CWA places the responsibility of all costs of cleanup with the dischargers.

The data presented in Table 9.4 are comparisons of the different list to the European Union list. The comparisons concern all substances with an EU OEL except substances without Chemical abstracts number (CAS) and asbestos, the latter due to it being regulated as number of fibres rather than a concentration. After these restrictions 102 substances are left. No national list includes all of the substances on the EU list, although Finland has 101 of 102 possible matches. Most European countries have about 90 substances in common with the EU list. 

Chemical Abstracts numbering (4) will be used throughout. 

Note that the aifoitraiy numbering used here may not coincide in all cases (e.g. entries 7,10,11) with correct Chemical Abstracts numbering. Maximum yield is S0%, except for entiy S. The epoxy alcohol was converted without isolation to the ethoxyethyl derivative. Not reported. (3 )-2-Methylpent-l-en-3-ol was used as the substrate for this epoxidation.

A variety of names has been used in the literature for this compound biphenylenetelluride, diphenylenetelluride, biphenylylenetelluride, diben-zotellurophene (38). Although the first names have been used recently, we prefer the last one, by analogy with the names used for the congener systems dibenzofuran, dibenzothiophene, and dibenzoselenophene. The name dibenzotellurophene is now that adopted by Chemical Abstracts. Numbering systems different from that shown in 38 are occasionally met in the literature. 

The name used by Chemical Abstracts for cyclandelate is a-hydroxybenzeneacetic acid, 3,3,5-trimethyl cyclohexyl ester. It is also called mandelic acid, 3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexyl ester 3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexyl mandelate 3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexyl amygdalate and 3,3,5-trimethyl cyclohexanol a-phenyl-a-hydroxyacetate. Trade names include, Cyclospasmol, Natil, Novodil, Perebral, and Spasmocyclon (1). The Chemical Abstracts number is 456-59-7.
