Char operator

This coal gasification reaction attains appreciable rate for sustaining the reduction reaction only at about 1000 °C for most of the reactive chars (devolatilised coal). Those who have access to very highly reactive coals (coals which give on devolatilisation very highly reactive chars), operate their rotary kilns below 1000 C. [Pg.70]

The criteria used in designing the full-scale treatment system were based on data obtained from a pilot-plant study using a 0.38 m dia. by 0.6l m high bed of bone char operated at a rate of about bO Z/mln. Feed to the column contained an average 0.18 nCi/ alpha activity while the effluent contained about 0.09 nCi/ total alpha. This bed of bone char satisfactorily decontaminated 2.1 x 105 Z of feed before saturation. [Pg.27]

Properties. Results for the operation using subbituminous coal from the Wyodad mine near Gillette, Wyoming, are shown in Table 13. Char yields decreased with increasing temperature, and oil yields increased. The Fischer assay laboratory method closely approximated the yields and product assays that were obtained with the TOSCOAL process. [Pg.94]

Gas Combustion Retort. The continuous gas combustion retort (GCR) has been modeled after the earlier batch-operation NTU retort. Although the term "gas combustion" has been appHed to this process, it is a misnomer in that, in a weU-designed and properly operated system, the residual char on the retorted shale suppHes much of the fuel for this process. The GCR is the foremnner of most continuous AGR processes (Table 7). [Pg.348]

Kutrieb Corporation (Chetek, Wisconsin) operates a pyrolator process for converting tires into oil, pyrolytic filler, gas, and steel. Nu-Tech (Bensenvike, Illinois) employs the Pyro-Matic resource recovery system for tire pyrolysis, which consists of a shredding operation, storage hopper, char-coUection chambers, furnace box with a 61-cm reactor chamber, material-feed conveyor, control-feed inlet, and oil collection system. It is rated to produce 272.5 L oil and 363 kg carbon black from 907 kg of shredded tires. TecSon Corporation (Janesville, Wisconsin) has a Pyro-Mass recovery system that pyroly2es chopped tire particles into char, oil, and gas. The system can process up to 1000 kg/h and produce 1.25 MW/h (16). [Pg.15]

The stmcture of residual char particles after devolatilization depends on the nature of the coal and the pyrolysis conditions such as heating rate, peak temperature, soak time at the peak temperature, gaseous environment, and the pressure of the system (72). The oxidation rate of the chat is primarily influenced by the physical and chemical nature of the chat, the rate of diffusion and the nature of the reactant and product gases, and the temperature and pressure of the operating system. The physical and chemical characteristics that influence the rate of oxidation ate chemical stmctural variations, such as the... [Pg.521]

Pyrolysis Of the many alternative chemical conversion processes that have been investigated, pyrolysis has received the most attention. Pyrolysis has been tested in countless pilot plants, and many full-scale demonstration systems have been operated. Few attained any longterm commercial use. Major issues were lack of market for the unstable and acidic pyrolytic oils and the char. [Pg.2244]

In second-generation PFBC, a topping combustor is used to raise the turbine rotor inlet temperature to state-of-the-art levels. Pulverized coal is fed to a partial-gasifier unit that operates about 870° to 925°C (1,600° to 1,700°F) to produce a low heating value fuel gas and combustible char. The char is burned in the PFBC. The fuel gas, after filtration, is piped back to the gas turbine, along with the PFBC exhaust. [Pg.1179]

The maximum recommended operating pressure is 1,450 psig (10 bar, lOMpa) to avoid charring caused by breakdown products of pyridazine and 4-aminobutanal. [Pg.504]

There can also be substantial particle attrition in cyclones in fluidized-bed systems because particles are accelerated at the inlet of the cyclone and impacted against the cyclone wall. Although there is little information on particle attrition in cyclones in the literature, it has been reported (Sishtla) that increasing system pressure decreases the attrition rate in cyclones operating with coal char. The mechanism by which this occurred was not determined. [Pg.136]
