Cetyl/stearyl alcohol

The most useful fatty alcohols obtained from fats and oils are coconut alcohol, different cuts of coconut alcohol, tallow alcohol, cetyl/stearyl alcohol and oleyl and oleyl/cetyl alcohols. [Pg.225]

Analogous gel matrices of liquid crystalline lamellar phases can also be formed with nonionie mesogens, such as the combination of cetyl/stearyl alcohol and ethoxy-lated fatty alcohol, provided that the hydrophilic and lipophilic properties of the surfactant molecules are more or less balanced to favor the formation of lamellar structures. [Pg.140]

Surfactants such as sulfated fatty alcohols may be hydrated to a higher extent than the fatty alcohols alone, and thus stabilize o/w emulsions. The combination of an anionic and a non-ionic surfactant has proven to be particularly effective, as the electrostatic repulsion forces among the ionic surfactant molecules at the interface are reduced by the incorporation of non-ionic molecules, thereby improving emulsion stability. The combination of cetyl/stearyl sulfate (Lanette E) and cetyl/stearyl alcohol (Lanette O) to yield an emulsifying cetyl/stearyl alcohol (Lanette N) is an example of this approach. The polar properties of this surfactant mixture are dominant therefore. [Pg.1127]

PEG bases can also be combined with various other bases. They are compatible with cetyl alcohol, cetyl stearyl alcohol, stearic acid, 1,2-propylene glycol, glycerol, glycerol monostearate, and PEG sorbitan monooleate. PEGs are not compatible, however, with paraffin wax, petroleum jelly, oleyl oleates, and hydrogenated peanut oil. Eurther details on the miscibility and compatibility of PEGs with other substances are given in Table 5. [Pg.273]
