Centrifuges basket type

For the sepn of solids from liquids, there are two types of centrifuges a)Solid wall(such as imperforate basket type) centrifuge, in which sepn or concn is by subsidence or flotation and b)Perforated wall(such as perforated basket type) centrifuge in which the solid phase is supported on a permeable surface thru which the fluid passes. A 3rd type is a combination of a) b) above. Here the primary concn is achieved by subsidence, followed by drainage of die liquid phase from the solid phase. These centrifuges can be either of batch or continuous operations. For sepn of liquids, there are bottle and tubular centrifiiges(Ref 2, 8,10,12,14,16,19,20,21,23,25,26 27)... [Pg.537]

Walkup(Ref 13) patented in 1949 a basket type centrifuge in which the slurry of explosive particles is fed continuously into a rapidly rotating cylindrical container with perforated walls. The explosive, as it looses the slurry liquid thru the perforations, first forms a lining of conoidal surface and then, subsequently fe<( particles climb along this surface and are propelled outwardly from the mouth of the container over the edge of the... [Pg.537]

A rather different application or rotating equipment is to do noraiaf elution chromatography in a centrifuge (chromaiofuge). For example, in a basket type centrifuge first a layer of pecking is laid down by... [Pg.754]

This principle is employed in centrifugal filters. Figure 6.1.6 illustrates a basket-type centrifuge. Solid liquid sludge is fed into the device. The particulate phase is radially thrown onto the screen of the basket, through which the liquid flows out, driven by the pressure generated by the... [Pg.354]

Centrifugal filters are also used quite widely in the fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals sector. They can either be of the perforated basket type (as shown in Figure 4.30), with manual, bag or knife unloading of filter cake, or the peeler, operating with a horizontal axis and with cake removal by a peeling knife into a discharge chute. [Pg.264]

Fixed-Bed Centrifuges. The simplest of the fixed-bed centrifuges is the perforated basket centrifuge (Fig. 31) which has a vertical axis, a closed bottom, and a Hp or overflow dam at the top end. Some domestic machines of this type are ia use for straining vegetable or fmit juices. Ia the iadustrial versioas, the basket housiag is oftea supported by a three-point suspeasioa called the three-column centrifuge. [Pg.412]

The scale-up of filtration centrifuges is usually done on an area basis, based on small-scale tests. Buchner funnel-type tests are not of much value here because the driving force for filtration is not only due to the static head but also due to the centrifugal forces on the Hquid in the cake. A test procedure has been described with a specially designed filter beaker to measure the intrinsic permeabiHty of the cake (7). The best test is, of course, with a small-scale model, using the actual suspension. Many manufacturers offer small laboratory models for such tests. The scale-up is most reHable if the basket diameter does not increase by a factor of more than 2.5 from the small scale. [Pg.414]

Link-Suspended Basket Centrifuges In centrifuges with diameters larger than 762 mm (30 in), the basket, curb, curb cover, and drive form a rigid assembly flexibly suspended from three fixed posts (also known as a three-column centrifuge). The three suspension members may be either chain hnks or stiff rods in ball-and-socket joints and are spring-loaded. The suspended assembly has restrained freedom to oscillate to compensate for a normal out-of-balance condition. The drive is vertical with more efficient power transmission compared to the base-bearing type. [Pg.1735]

The most reliable recycle reactors are those with a centrifugal pump, a fixed bed of catalyst, and a well-defined and forced flow path through the catalyst bed. Some of those shown on the two bottom rows in Jankowski s papers are of this type. From these, large diameter and/or high speed blowers are needed to generate high pressure increase and only small gaps can be tolerated between catalyst basket and blower, to minimize internal back flow. [Pg.60]

A strainer should be used in the pump suction line temporarily for a centrifugal pump and permanently for the rotary positive displacement pump. For the permanent installations, a Y-type strainer with an austenitic stainless strainer basket should be used. The cross-sectional... [Pg.311]
