The abstract texts in Chemical Abstracts are not intended as substitutes for the contents of the original document. They should, however, furnish the reader with enough information to enable him to decide whether intensive study of the original document is worthwhile and if the costs for ordering or even translation are rewarding. There are many ways to obtain the original literature which is held at the disposal of central libraries in many countries for loan or for photocopying. Printed files and online databases make it possible for the user to identify the respective library. [Pg.98]

The Chemical Abstracts Service offers the direct connection from the CA abstract (where only the abbreviated journal title is mentioned) to the expanded title and the source of supply. The CAS Source Index provides this link. CASSI not only includes every type of publication, such as journals, technical reports, monographs, conference reports and patent groups, which have been cited in Chemical Abstracts from 1907 to the present time, but also all source material cited in Beilstein Handbuch der Organischen Chemie up to and including 1963 and in Chemisches Zentralblatt from 1830 to 1940. Libraries in 29 countries, which hold the cited journal or book, are named beside the publication source entry. The inventory of 361 libraries is listed, 290 cited in the USA, 71 in other countries. [Pg.98]

References to libraries are given in a code which contains the following information  [Pg.98]

Inclusive years of the library s holdings of the publication (the plus sign denotes continuous holding of the journal from that date onwards, an asterisk beside a given year indicates that not all the issues for that year are present). [Pg.98]

CASSI abbreviations for about fifteen hundred leading journals are listed on a free website (CAplus Core Journal Coverage List). Also on the web is the CAS Source Index (CASSI) Search Tool (http //cassi.cas.org/search.jsp). [Pg.7]

CAS Source Index (CASSI) abbreviations. The most recent printed cumulative compendium of CASSl abbreviated titles is for the period 1907-2004. Annual printed updates are also issued, and a CD version is available, in which the cumulative titles and the annual updates are combined (currently CASSl on CD covers the period 1907-2008). From 2010, only the CD version of CASSl is published. CASSl abbreviations for about 1,500 leading journals are listed on a free website (CAplus Core Journal Coverage List). [Pg.40]

The CAS Source Index (CASSI) is a complete source of bibliographic information on some 70000 scientific and technical serial and non-serial primary publications. [Pg.290]

CASSI is published in updated form every five years. A quarterly supplement is issued containing information about journal title changes, new journals or changes in library holdings. Besides new entries, the fourth quarterly supplement of each year includes the cumulated data contained in the three preceding issues. The next cumulative edition of the CAS Source Index is due to be published in 1995. [Pg.99]

From the CAS Source Index it is possible to discover that the complete title of the journal is Kinetika i Kataliz (Fig. 64). It is published in Russian and the summary is also in Russian. It includes, however, a table of contents (tc) in English. An English translation of Kinetika i Kataliz is also issued and a reference to the short journal title, Kinet. Catal. (Engl Transl), is given in CASSI. [Pg.103]

Unlike the CA use, journal titles are written in full words instead of their standard acronyms. This will save a lot of time when searching for the full names. ORBIT is also the only host, providing CASSI, the CAS Source Index in an online file (Sect. 3.1). [Pg.278]
