Be40(02CCH3)e. The acetate is typical of the basic beryllium carboxylates (Be(OH)2 plus ethanoic acid). The structures have O at the centre of a tetrahedron of Be with carb-oxylate spanning each edge of the tetrahedron. Be(02CCH3)2 is formed from BeCl2 and glacial ethanoic acid. 

Carb.) depend on the crude origin and the processing severity. Metals, having been 90 to 95% retained on the catalysts, are found in low quantities in residues. 

Ethyl cyctopropane-carboxylate. Use 22 g. of cyciopropane-carb-oxyhc acid (Section V,33) and 40 g. (24-5 ml.) of redistiUed thionyl chloride to prepare the acid chloride, b.p. 118-119° (22 g.). Treat the latter with 10-1 g. of absolute ethyl alcohol. The yield of ethyl cyclo-propane-carboxylate, b.p. 132-133°, is 13 g. 

Acylation of the Leimgruber Batcho enamines with phosgene followed by methanolysis and reductive cyclization generates methyl indole-3-carb-oxylates[8]... 

The regioselectivity of the reaction appears to be determined by a balance of electronic and steric factors. For acrylate and propiolate esters, the carb-oxylate group is found preferentially at C3 of the carbazole product[6-8]. Interestingly, a 4-methyl substituent seems to reinforce the preference for the EW group to appear at C3 (compare Entries 4 and 5 in Table 16.2). For disubstituted acetylenic dicnophiles, there is a preference for the EW group to be at C2 of the carbazole ring[6]. This is reinforced by additional steric bulk in the other substituent[6,9]. 

Diesel Fuel. Eederal diesel specifications were changed to specify a maximum of 0.05% sulfur and a minimum cetane index of 40 or a maximum aromatics content of 35 vol % for on-road diesel. Eor off-road diesel, higher sulfur is allowed. CARB specifications require 0.05% sulfur on or off road and 10% aromatics maximum or passage of a qualification test. Process technologies chosen to meet these specifications include hydrotreating, hydrocracking, and aromatics saturation.

Composite Plating. An electroless nickel matrix can be used to securely bond diamonds to cutting tools, and electroless nickel—diamond composites are also used (see Tool materials). The NYE-CARB process gives a siUcon carbide—electroless nickel composite that has extremely high abrasion resistance (49). Electroless nickel—Teflon composites are being promoted as low friction materials.
