With a consumption of about 150 000 t/a carbon blacks are the most important pigments used in the printing-ink industry. The required properties of the pigment black vary rather widely, depending on the printing process and the type of binder.

The Influence of Phosphorus Poisoning. - Catalytic oxidation using noble metal catalysts has been used to reduce the concentration of unburned hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide pollutants released from internal combustion engines, and similar applications. It is well known that contaminants arising from lubricants, (P, Ca, and Zn) deactivate these catalysts. Phosphorus compounds in printing processes are the source of decay of noble metal catalysts used to control these emissions.

The tag produces an identification (ID) signal, i.e., a radio frequency (RF) signal carrying identification information, capable of being interpreted by an electronic reader device. A preferred tag is fabricated using a printing process to mark a conductive pattern, e.g., comprised of a conductive ink based on silver, carbon, etc., on a flexible substrate, e.g., polyvinyl chloride.
