Capillary electrophoresis current

One of the most important features of the capillary electrophoresis instrument is the detection system. Several of the detection methods commonly used in high-performance liquid chromatography have been somewhat adapted for capillary electrophoresis. Currently, the most popular detection methods developed for capillary electrophoresis are summarized in Table III. [Pg.15]

One of the important problems in the diagnosis of different disease in their early stages is the determination of bio-active substances in biological fluids. We are currently interested in applying capillary electrophoresis (CE) as technique for the rapid and highly efficient separation of corticosteroids in semm and urine. Steroids can analyze by MEKC. [Pg.250]

The need to develop new materials for electrophoretic analysis and macromolecular separations prompted by the needs of the human genome project and the rapidly advancing fields associated with biotechnology, advances in the development of new analytical instrumentation—especially capillary electrophoresis, and practical limitations of the media currently used for gel electrophoresis [73]... [Pg.528]

There are many proteins in the human body. A few hundreds of these compounds can be identified in urine. The qualitative determination of one or a series of proteins is performed by one of the electrophoresis techniques. Capillary electrophoresis can be automated and thus more quantified (Oda et al. 1997). Newer techniques also enable quantitative determination of proteins by gel electrophoresis (Wiedeman and Umbreit 1999). For quantitative determinations, the former method of decomposition into the constituent amino acids was followed by an automated spectropho-tometric measurement of the ninhydrin-amino add complex. Currently, a number of methods are available, induding spectrophotometry (Doumas and Peters 1997) and, most frequently, ELISAs. Small proteins can be detected by techniques such as electrophoresis, isoelectric focusing, and chromatography (Waller et al. 1989). These methods have the advantage of low detection limits. Sometimes, these methods have a lack of specifidty (cross-over reactions) and HPLC techniques are increasingly used to assess different proteins. The state-of-the-art of protein determination was mentioned by Walker (1996). [Pg.208]

High performance capillary electrophoresis in its current form is a new technique. Its feasibility has been proven by the analysis and separation of small ions, drugs, chiral molecules, polymers, and biopolymers.93 We are learning more every day about the small tricks of the trade of the technique, and the efficiency and reproducibility of the methods are improving. [Pg.403]

Simple etching of the capillary end served to decouple the electrophoretic current from that of amperometric detection, permitting quantitation of attomole levels of catecholamines from brain microdialyzates.24 A postcolumn reactor using bromine generated electrochemically in situ has been used in the detection of peptide thiols, such as glutathione and cysteine, separated by capillary electrophoresis.25... [Pg.429]

This instrumentation has exquisite sensitivity, which allows the analysis of single cancer cells (Hu et al., 2004). Our earlier work employed slow separation conditions and a rather primitive photodetection system. Our current system takes roughly 1 h to complete the two-dimensional capillary electrophoresis separation and employs state-of-the-art photodetectors. [Pg.358]

Qualification of a capillary electrophoresis instrument is performed using failure mode, effects, and criticality analysis as the risk analysis tool. The instrument is broken down into its component modules and the potential failures of those components identified. The potential effect of those failures is defined and the risk characterized. Any current evaluation of those failures is identified and any recommended actions to mitigate the risk defined. [Pg.171]
