Capacitors maintenance

Here the relay assesses the kVAr requirement of the system and switches ON all the required capacitors simultaneously. Theoretically any size of capacitor units can he used. But when a capacitor is taken out for maintenance, this can create confusion in the p.f. correction. The relay will not be aware of this and act accordingly. The bank size may also be large and cause switching surges. [Pg.768]

This part considers reactive power control with the use of shunt and series capacitors. The controls may be manual or automatic through electromagnetic or static devices. Protection of capacitors and capacitor banks as well as design, manufacturing and test requirements, installation and maintenance are also covered, the main thrust being on the application of power capacitors. [Pg.990]

In the case of the market segment for power delivery, DLCs fill the gap existing between batteries and electrolytic capacitors. In comparison with DLCs, batteries have approximately 10 times more energy density and 10 times less power density. On the other hand, electrolytic capacitors have approximately 10 times less energy density and 10 times more power density. In addition to the fact that the DLCs can provide more power than batteries, they may also be deeply cycled in voltage several millions of times. Moreover, they do not need any maintenance to fulfill their function without failure over a longer lifetime. The major applications for power DLCs are expected in the automotive market. [Pg.430]

Workplace exposure to PCBs can occur during repair and maintenance of PCB transformers accidents, fires, or spills involving PCB transformers and older computers and instruments and disposal of PCB materials. In addition to older electrical instruments and fluorescent lights that contain PCB-filled capacitors, caulking materials, elastic sealants, and heat insulation have also been known to contain PCBs. Contact with PCBs at hazardous waste sites can happen when workers breathe air and touch soil containing PCBs. Exposure in the contaminated workplace... [Pg.29]

Let us estimate the voltage necessary to produce a non-uniform electric field which can control the motion of functionalized walls and therefore provide the frequency maintenance. Let the gigahertz oscillator is placed in the middle between armatures of a capacitor. It is easy to show that if the voltage t/(f) = Locos cot is applied to armatures the amplitude of this voltage is F ln(F2/F )tF1+F2)2... [Pg.583]

One of the important advantages of primary batteries eonsists of very simple maintenance procedures. Most such batteries require no servicing. Before a battery is switched on, its appearance and the remaining service life are checked sometimes actual parameters are measured (open-circuit voltage (OCV) and the initial discharge voltage). Correct polarity and reliable contacts must be ensured a violation of polarity correspondence may result in serious disorders and even in the breakdown of load circuitry, especially circuits involving transistors and electrolytic capacitors. [Pg.55]

Table 2.20 also provides the so-called basic failure rate Aq. To obtain the failure rate that considers the capacitor environmental conditions, the basic rate Aq is multipUed by a factor ng that increases from 1 for the case of nearly zero environmental stress with optimum engineering operation and maintenance to 15 for the case of severe conditions of noise, vibration, and other environmental stresses related to missile launch and space vehicle operation. [Pg.197]

The two most common PCB components are transformers and capacitors. A PCB transformer is one containing at least 500 ppm (parts per milhon) PCBs in the dielectric fluid. An Askarel transformer generally has 600,000 ppm or more. A PCB transformer may be converted to a PCB-contaminated device (50-500 ppm) or a non-PCB device (less than 50 ppm) by being drained, refilled, and tested. The testing m ust not take place until the transformer has been in service for a minimum of 90 days. Note that this is not something that a maintenance technician can do. It is the exclusive domain of specialized remanufacturing companies. [Pg.2331]

There are three basic maintenance requirements for computers hardware maintenance, operating system maintenance, and software maintenance. Each of these areas will be addressed individually. The modem microcomputer has an effective life span of about 10 yr. Capacitors drift over time. It takes about 10 yr for critical capacitors to lose enough of their capacitance to adversely affect the rehabiUty of the machine. Computers older than 8 yr are Uving on borrowed time. Other critical components also fail with time (microprocessor, chipset, etc). While the actual life of these components cannot be accurately predicted, the incidence of failure increases very rapidly after 10 yr. [Pg.688]

A set of four components, rotor, gearbox, generator and pitch system of a 5 MW offshore wind turbine is considered for maintenance modelling and simulation. The turbine is located in a North Sea wind farm about 45 km from German shore. A capacitor factor of 50.8% has been reported by Lindoe (2011). [Pg.1148]

In potentiostats P is equivalent to Zi, and the capacitor D is equivalent to Z2. We are not interested in any output, only in the maintenance of ground potential at point X. Therefore the whole output of the amplifier is used as feedback. [Pg.158]

Nevertheless, predictions are a valuable form of analysis that also provide insight into safety, maintenance and warranty costs and other product considerations. US Department of Defence Handbook (M1L-HDBK-217F, dd Dec 1991) can be used for reliability prediction of electronic components (e.g. microcircuits, semi-conductors, lasers, resistors, capacitors, etc.). The purpose of MlL-HDBK-217 is... [Pg.178]

A method to improve power factor, which is t3 ically expensive, is to use a unity or leading power factor synchronous motor or generator in the power system. A less expensive method is to connect properly sized capacitors to the motor supply line. In most cases, the use of capacitors with induction motors provides lower first cost and reduced maintenance expense. Figure E-7 graphically shows how the total KVA vector approaches the size of the real power vector as reactive KVAR is reduced by corrective capacitors. Because of power factor correction, less power need be generated and distributed to deliver the same amount of useful energy to the motor. [Pg.251]
