The tube is now immersed nearly up to its neck in an oil or metal bath and the -amino-caproic acid melted at a bath temperature of220 °C.Then it is heated quickly to 260 °C and held at this temperature under a continuous stream of nitrogen for 15 min. Hexaldehyde has been prepared from caproic acid by passing it over zinc dust at 300°, by reaction with amylene at 300°. in the presence of thorium oxide, by passing it over manganous oxide at 300-360 with two volumes of formic acid, and by distillation of the calcium salt with calcium formate. It has also been prepared by heating a-hydroxyheptoic acid or better a-acetoxyheptoic acid, and by the reaction of ethyl orthoformate with -amylmagnesium bromide. ... 

C) Preparation of re-Caproic Acid (Sm.). Use 4.5 g of n-amyl bromide, 0.7 g of magnesium and 10 ml of ether. After carbonation and decomposition of the addition product, the alkaline layer from the ether extraction is cooled and carefully acidified, and then extracted with three 6-ml portions of ether. The ethereal solution is dried with 0.5 g of calcium chloride, and the ether is distilled directly from the large tube until 5 ml of liquid remains. This is transferred to a distilling tube and fractionated. The tube is heated with a very small flame. The portion which boils at 200-206° is collected. The yield is 1 g. 

Other, nontested, proposed regimens of dubious value include prostaglandin Ej, surfactant, antihistamines, asparaginase, calcium, atropine, anticoagulants, e-amino caproic acid, urease, hypothermia, and extra-corporeal oxygenation (34).
