The purpose of chemical processes is not to make chemicals the purpose is to make money. However, the profit must be made as part of a sustainable industrial activity. Chemical processes should be designed as part of a sustainable industrial activity that retains the capacity of ecosystems to support both industrial activity and life into the future. Sustainable industrial activity must meet the needs of the present without compromising the needs of future generations. For chemical process design, this means that processes should use raw materials as efficiently as is economic and practicable, both to prevent the production of waste that can be environmentally harmful and to preserve the reserves of raw materials as much as possible. Processes should use as little energy as economic and practicable, both to prevent the buildup of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere from burning fossil fuels and to preserve reserves of fossil fuels. Water must also be consumed in sustainable quantities that do not cause deterioration in the quality of the water source and the long-term quantity of the reserves. Aqueous and atmospheric emissions must not be environmentally harmful, and solid waste to landfill must be avoided.

The main phytotoxic effect is the inhibition of photosynthesis by blocking the electron transport during Hill reaction of photosystem II. This blockage leads to inhibitory effects on the synthesis of carbohydrate, a reduction in the carbon pool, and a buildup of carbon dioxide within the leaf, which subsequently causes closure of the stomates, thus inhibiting transpiration (Stevenson et al. 1982 Jachetta et al. 1986 Shabana 1987). 

As stated, one of the fundamental problems encountered in the direct oxidation of hydrocarbon fuels in SOFCs is carbon deposition on the anode, which quickly deactivates the anode and degrades cell performance. The possible buildup of carbon can lead to failure of the fuel-cell operation. Applying excess steam or oxidant reagents to regenerate anode materials would incur significant cost to SOFC operation. Nonmetal oxides dissolve in water to give acid solutions. The most physiologically important example is carbon dioxide. Of course, you already know this. Buildup of carbon dioxide in the blood results in acidosis. This is not necessarily a bad thing. In cellular tissue, where the carbon dioxide concentration is relatively high, the increased acidity slightly alters the structure of hemoglobin, and facilitates the release of oxygen.

For transportation of frozen or refrigerated specimens, a styrofoam container should be used. The container walls should be 1 inch (2.5 cm) thick to provide effective insulation. The container should be vented to prevent buildup of carbon dioxide under pressure and a possible explosion. Sohd carbon dioxide (dry ice) is the most convenient refrigerant material for keeping specimens frozen, and temperatures as low as -70 °C can be achieved. The amount of dry ice required in a container depends on the size of the container and the efficiency of its insulation and the time for which the specimens must be kept frozen. One piece of solid dry ice (about 3 inches x 4 inches x 1 inch) in a container with 1-inch styrofoam walls and a volume of 125 cubic inches (2000 cm ) will maintain a single specimen frozen for 48 hours.
