Boron-containing

Manufacture. Boron trifluoride is prepared by the reaction of a boron-containing material and a fluorine-containing substance in the presence of an acid. The traditional method used borax, fluorspar, and sulfuric acid. [Pg.161]

Air-Stable boron-containing polymers can be prepared by the reaction of dicyano compounds with the / fZ-butylborane—trimethyl amine complex (449). [Pg.321]

The second control mechanism is the soluble reactor poison boric acid [10043-35-3] Natural boron contains 20% boron-10 [14798-12-0] ... [Pg.217]

In an analogous fashion to the hydroboration reaction, a variety of boron-containing substrates react with iminoboranes. Addition of X2B—Cl, X2B—N3, X2B—SR, X2B—NR2, and X2B—R to the unsaturated B—N system is called chloro-, azido-, thio-, amino-, and alkyloboration, respectively. The azidoboration and chloroboration of two iminoboranes are shown ia equations 23 and 24 (72). [Pg.264]

The synthetic method used to accomplish this is an indirect one known as hydroboration-oxidation. It was developed by Professor Herbert C. Brown and his coworkers at Purdue University in the 1950s as part of a broad progran designed to apply boron-containing reagents to organic chemical synthesis. The number of applications is so large (hydroboration-oxidation is just one of them) and the work so novel that Brown was a corecipient of the 1979 Nobel Prize in chemistry. [Pg.250]

Fluoride ion, and weak acids and bases do not interfere, but nitrate, nitrite, perchlorate, thiocyanate, chromate, chlorate, iodide, and bromide do. Since analysis of almost all boron-containing compounds requires a preliminary treatment which ultimately results in an aqueous boric acid sample, this procedure may be regarded as a gravimetric determination of boron. [Pg.476]
