The genera in the family of Boraginaceae (Table 1) include bluebells, borage, comfrey, and forget-me-nots. 

Native Virginia bluebells (Mertensia. iroinica) seem to materialize from the floors f eastern forests in early spring. Clusters of pink buds that open to tubular blue flowers are carried on graceful stems over rounded, medium green foliage. Plants grow 1 -2 tall and spread to about 1 wide. 

Rich, moist, well-drained soil and partial hade are bluebells requirements. Plantings ncrease slowly but steadily in sites that resem-Me their woodland habitat. Leaves yellow and jie back in summer plants seem to have disappeared by July. Do not cut fading foliage allow it to die back naturally. Root rot may damage bluebells in poorly drained soil they are otherwise trouble-free. 

Several years ago. Seiner and Gilinsky [3] introduced nozzle geometry for noise suppression they termed a Bluebell nozzle. Such examples are shown in Fig. 4.8. These nozzles contain corrugations and trailing edge chevrons. The corrugations produce additional thrust due to an increase in lateral area, and combined with the chevrons they lead to noise suppression as shown in Fig. 4.9. 

Application of the Bluebell nozzle geometry to the military aircraft engine requires the research to be accomplished in definite steps. The first embodiment...

Concepts initially under investigation include those of microjet injection [1] and the use of Bluebell (corrugated) nozzles with tabs/chevrons and/or nozzle lip injection [2]. These concepts embody several types of technologies for jet-noise reduction which include those of conventional vortical mechanisms, turbulent structure alteration, and shock attenuation.

The actual explanation was given as a result of marty years of research. The pH of 4-6 in the vacuoles of plants would be consistent with the colorless pseudobase form of anthocyanins or a little bit of the violet anl drobase. This pseudobase, on the other hand, is understood to be rare in Nature. In addition to pH, the interactions of anthocyanins with each other, other polyphenol type pigments (such as flavonoids or flavons), and metal ions such as alirminum, gallium and iron(in) collectively determine the color. Desert bluebells Phacelia campanularia) are true to their name as their flowers are blue, which is caused by aggregation between phacelianin molecules and their interaction with aluminum(III) and iron(III) ions. 

The significance of flower pigments for pollination may easily be seen with mutants of bluebell (Scilla non-scripta) ot bellflowers (Campanula) having unpigmented flowers, which occasionally appear in the natural population possessing blue flowers. Seed set of these mutants is very poor, due to the more or less complete lack of pollinators. The mutants are therefore unable the maintain themselves in the natural habitat. 

Glucomannans occur as reserve materials in certain seeds such as bluebell (Endymion non-scriptus) while the mucilages of other species are or contain polyuronides. Xyloglucans (with galactose side chains) are found as amyloids in seeds of tamarind Tamarindus) [65], Annona [43] and several other species. These polysaccharides again are deposited in the endosperm cell walls.
