Lateral area

Lateral area = (perimeter of right section) (lateral edge)... [Pg.186]

Lateral area of regular pyramid = lAfperimeter of base) (slant height)... [Pg.186]

Pyramid Volume = (area of base) X (altitude) lateral area of regular pyramid = V2 (perimeter of base) X (slant height) = V2 (number of sides) (length of one side) (slant height). [Pg.429]

The area postrema is a circumventricular brain region positioned on the dorsal surface of the medulla on the floor of the fourth ventricle. The blood-brain barrier and the cerebrospinal fluid-brain barrier are absent in this region and consequently many substances that do not pass across capillaries in other regions of the brain can do so in the area postrema. The chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ), located in the lateral area postrema is sensitive to blood-borne emetogens. Nerves from the CTZ connect with the vomiting centre. [Pg.218]

During this time, oxidized and neutral phases coexist, having clear separation surfaces (i.e., the lateral area of the cylinders). [Pg.383]

The total energy, which is supplied to the liquid from the wall, is equal to the heat flux multiplied by the lateral area of the micro-channel The energy,... [Pg.421]

The skin is usually degreased with alcohol followed by a mild acetone scrub. After cleaning, Jessner s solution is appUed to the face with a sable brush, cotton tipped apphcators, cotton balls, or 2 X 2 gauze sponges. The author prefers the use of cotton tipped applicators. Typically, the cheeks are treated first, working from medial to lateral areas followed by application to the chin and forehead area. For superficial peeling, two coats are usually applied. Additional coats increase the depth of peeling. [Pg.27]

Central, temporal (upper and lateral areas on the skull)... [Pg.73]

Confocal Raman images were acquired from 50 pm (axial) x20 pm (lateral) areas with step sizes of 2 pm in the axial direction and 4 pm in the lateral direction. The map of the integrated area ratio 485cm /1004 cm 1 is plotted in Fig. 15.8. Most of the exogenous a-TAc permeated 15 pm into skin with a more-or-less monotonic diminishing gradient at depths between 15 and 30 pm. Small pockets of material are observed at depths of 30 35 pm. [Pg.376]

To apply the concept of the hollow sphere to the frustum array device it is assumed that each frustum-shaped cell is the sector of a hollow sphere that is generated by a cone of revolution whose vertex coincides with the center of the spheres. Because the layer in which the frustums exist is impermeable to drug, there is no transport across the lateral areas of the frustums. Thus, Equations 1-3 apply and the area term for Equation 4 is given by the declina-... [Pg.329]

Montoya et al., 1990 Abrous et al., 1992). Lesions restricted to the discrete areas of the striatum, suggest that dopaminergic innervation of more lateral areas is likely to be critical for skilled-reaching performance (Sabol et al., 1985 Pisa, 1988 Pisa and Cyr, 1990). [Pg.262]

Analysis of the regional changes in dopamine turnover in rats trained to use just one forelimb for bar pressing indicates significant increases in dopamine turnover bilaterally, in particular in the posterior and the lateral areas of the striatum (Church et al., 1986). In like vein, Cousins and Salamone trained rats on a fixed ratio 5 (FR5) schedule of... [Pg.262]

They recorded EEG and local field potentials (LFPs) from macroelectrodes inserted into the subthalamic nucleus area in nine awake patients following functional neurosurgery for PD. Patients were studied after overnight withdrawal of medication. Coherence between EEG and SA LFPs was apparent in the theta (3-7 Hz), alpha (8-13 Hz), lower beta (14-20 Hz), and upper beta (21-32 Hz) bands, although activity in the alpha and upper beta bands dominated. Theta coherence predominantly involved mesial and lateral areas, alpha and lower beta coherence the mesial and ipsilateral motor areas, and upper beta coherence the midline cortex. SA LFPs led EEG in the theta band. In contrast, EEG led the depth LEP in the lower and upper beta bands. SA LFP activity in the alpha band could either lead or lag EEG. [Pg.254]

In cirrhosis and fibrosis, the biopsy needle used will either be the Vim-Silverman needle or the Tru-Cut needle. Adequate tissue can thereby be obtained for assessment. Because of the increased bleeding tendency connected with these needle types, the diameter should not exceed 1.6 mm (which is generally not required anyway). The liver is punctured tangentially, mainly in the lateral area of the right lobe. Subsequent to the puncture, the stylet is removed, the outer cannula advanced, the inner needle sheath pushed forwards in a rotating movement out of the outer cannula before both are finally withdrawn together. [Pg.157]
