Blight: potato tomato

Maneb is an ethylene(bis)dithiocarbamate fungicide used in the control of early and late blights on potatoes, tomatoes and many other diseases on various fruits, vegetables, field crops, and ornamentals. Maneb has been shown to be effective on a wider spectrum of fruit, vegetable, and turf diseases caused by fungi compared to other fungicides. It is available as granular, wettable powder, flowable concentrate, and ready-to-use formulations. [Pg.1592]

Solanapyrones E, F, and G are produced by an unidentified fungus (strain CNC 159), isolated on the surface of the chlorophycean Halimeda monik (Bryopsidales). These new structures are related to solanapyrone C, which is a phytotoxin produced by several terrestrial fungi including Ahemaria solani, which causes early blight in tomatoes and potatoes. [Pg.522]

Jepson, Susan B. "Fact Sheet on Late Blight of Potato and Tomato." Oregon State University Extension Service, 2005. [Pg.614]

The most important foliage diseases of tomatoes are the early and late blights that also attack potatoes. Because tomatoes are a warm country crop, early blight... [Pg.7]

The biological activity and heat in a compost pile is so great that it can break down many plant diseases. Even so, it is probably wise not to add plants infected with very persistent diseases of vegetables such as clubroot and white rot. Potato and tomato foliage infected with potato blight can be safely composted. [Pg.39]

Remove self-set (volunteer) potato and tomato plants, which often spring up on compost piles they could be infected with blight. [Pg.93]

Uses as fungicide to control early and late blights of potatoes and tomatoes anthracnose in cucurbits leaf spot diseases in many crops glume blotch of wheat also used on vegetables, ornaments, berry fruits, melons, coffee and tobacco, etc. [Pg.839]

Uses as fungicide to control late blights of potatoes and tomatoes downy mildews of hops, vines, lettuce, onions, soybeans and other crops many diseases in flowers and ornamentals and often used in combination with other fungicides, etc. [Pg.841]

The reactions of diamines with carbon disulfide in the presence of alkali afford a useful synthetic route to the ethylenebisdithiocarbamates (6) (see p. 148). Several of these compounds, such as the manganese salt maneb (7), are important fungicides, especially for the control of potato and tomato blight.3... [Pg.157]

Alternaria solani, the causal organism of early blight disease of tomato and potato produces several metabolites whose structures have been clarified. It was pointed out that the fungus also secretes host-specific toxins which induce necrotic symptoms typically associated with the disease [50]. Five phytotoxins were isolated, solanapyrones A (67), B (68), C (69), D (70) and E (71), Fig. 17. The diastereomeric... [Pg.144]

Alternaria species are associated with several leaf-spot diseases of plants. Alternaric acid (8.10), produced by A. solani, which is the cause of early blight on potatoes and tomatoes, has a marked phytotoxic activity and may be responsible for many of the symptoms of the plant disease caused by the fungus. It also shows a specific anti-fungal activity. The branched chain structure is biosynthesized from nine acetate units and three Ci units derived from formate. The solanopyrones are another group of phytotoxic metabolites of A. solani. Solanopyrone A (8.11) induced necrotic lesions on the leaves of potatoes typical of this fungal infection. The structures of the solanopyrones were established by... [Pg.151]

Mancozeb is a fungicide used to control many fungal diseases such as blight, leaf spot, rust, downy mildew, and scab in field crops, fruits, nuts, vegetables, ornamentals, etc. In particular, it is used to control the following early and late blights of potatoes and tomatoes leaf spot diseases on celery, cucurbits, beets. [Pg.368]

Used at low rates against Peronosporales it has a distinct curative effect, inhibiting disease development in the incubation period (Serres and Carraro, 1976). It ves good control of Plasmopara viticola (Douchet et al 1977), potato and tomato late blight, and hop downy mildew (Absi, 1979). It is most efficacious against early and severe disease infection. [Pg.452]
