Drilling system

Whether onshore or offshore drilling is carried out, the basic drilling system employed in both cases will be the rotary rig (Fig. 3.7) and the following summarises the basic functions and parts of such a unit. Three basic functions are carried out during rotary drilling operations ... [Pg.35]

Nevertheless, increasing power demands initiated a large-scale integration of electrical components into the machine bodies and created unique designs for mining equipment. Two examples, a shearer-loader and an automatic directional drilling system, shall be considered in more detail in... [Pg.295]

From about ten meters down to the close-off depth it is necessary to use electromechanical drilling systems (31) to collect samples. The outside surface of cores collected in this way can often be contaminated by heavy metals because of the contact between the drill body and the snow or ice core itself. This fact can be minimized by using special devices, such as plastic coated drills, and by carefully manipulating samples. In any case, it is necessary to proceed to a decontamination of the cores because the outer layer can be heavily contaminated (see below) this operation is usually feasible because the high density of the firn or ice prevents transfer of contaminating metals to the inner part of the sample section. [Pg.60]

It can be seen that for an increased frequency, but at the same intensity level, the maximum amplitude motion decreases, but this is accompanied by a dramatic increase in acceleration. This is an important parameter when considering the chemical effects of ultrasound. This type of measurement is also of great interest in welding and drilling systems. In principle, according to Eq. (2), this permits the calculation of the sound intensity. Unfortunately unless it is known how much of this motional amplitude is transmitted to the sonicated medium it is again difficult to correlate this value to the actual transmitted power. Furthermore, for a given amplitude, the effect of ultrasound depends on the surface area of the emitter immersed in the medium. [Pg.31]

Four types of drilling systems employed for obtaining subsurface strata samples in coal exploration and development activities are the (1) rotary and (2) reverse circulation (noncore) systans and (3) conventional and (4) wire-line-coring systems. Each system is identifiable by its unique method of sample recovery (Landua, 1977 Chugh, 1985 Whittaker, 1985). [Pg.132]

Recognition of the many and varied types of drilling programs makes it extremely obvious that not one drill or drilling system can be expected to produce maximum results under all conditions. [Pg.132]

Another major advantage of the laser via generation systems is RTR capability compared to the traditional mechanical NC drilling systems for the volume production of the double-side flexible circuits. It needs some modifications and loader and un-loader for the RTR systems for the standard laser equipment. Several laser systems are available for RTR process. [Pg.1509]
