Balasubramanian studies

Mishra and Balasubramanian studied the corrosion behavior of pnre A1 that had been exposed to 3.5% NaCl solution containing different concentrations of LaClj or CeClj. Polarization resistance and EIS data showed that LaClj additions provided better corrosion protection than CeClj with the maximum corrosion inhibition being observed at 1000 ppm. The REMs acted as cathodic inhibitors and caused only minor changes in the pitting potential. SEM observations revealed REM oxides/hydroxides precipitates with different morphologies on the smface ofAl. [Pg.58]

In the sorption-enhanced reforming (SER) process, one of the gaseous reaction products (C02) of the catalytic reforming reaction is separated from the reaction zone by sorption. As a result, the equilibrium of the reaction is shifted toward products according to the Le Chatelier s principle. Balasubramanian et al. [18] studied the SMR reaction in the presence of CaO as a C02 acceptor. Thus, in addition to reactions 2.4 and 2.6, the reaction of C02 with the C02 acceptor (CaO) takes place in the reaction zone ... [Pg.45]

Note Added in Proof After we sent the manuscript to the publishers we became aware of CNDO studies on alkali ion solvation performed by Gupta and Rao 270> and Balasubramanian et al.271 >, which might be of some importance for readers interested in cation solvation by water and various amides. Another CNDO model investigation on the structure of hydrated ions was published very recently by Cremaschi and Simonetta 272> They studied CH5 and CH5 surrounded by a first shell of water molecules in order to discuss solvation effects on structure and stability of these organic intermediates or transition states respectively. [Pg.108]

The profiling of HCHs was also similar to those of DDTs (Table 13.1). Higher proportion of both a-HCH and y-HCH were observed in various studies that indicate the use of technical HCHs and lindane (purified y-HCH) in this country. Likewise, there were differences in use of different formulations of HCH among the locations. Higher a-HCH levels in water from some locations in Java may have been due to preferential use of technical HCHs, whereas high concentration of y-HCH in several rivers and coastal areas in Sumatra Island may indicate the considerable usage of lindane. It has been reported that lindane is commonly used on palm oil tree plantations (Othman and Balasubramanian, 2001). It is plausible that this pesticide is intensively applied on palm oil tree, a common plantation crop in Sumatra Island. [Pg.597]

This work was supported in part by the National Science Foundation under Grant Nos. CHE-8214689 and CHE-8214665 and also by the Research Corporation. We gratefully acknowledge our collaborators, Professor Kenneth S. Pitzer and Professor Yoon S. Lee, who were intimately involved in the development of the formalism and methods presented herein. In addition, Professor K. Balasubramanian has applied the REP-based method to a wide variety of molecular systems containing heavy atoms and has kindly kept us informed of the progress of his studies. [Pg.179]

Fremy s salt, 0N(S03)22 is the last of the stable free radicals in aqueous solution to be described in this review. Quantitative studies of its chemistry are rare, and the reader is referred to a recent paper by Balasubramanian and Gould for details (26). According to these workers the protonated radical has a pK less than 5.6. They cite a potential of —0.350 V for the 0N(S03)2270N(S03)23 couple in alkaline media. This potential was derived from potentiometric titrations of this electrochemically reversible couple by Aoyagui and Kato, who also noted that for H0N(S03)22 the pKt = 12.0 (20). These results have been confirmed in a voltammetric investigation (255). [Pg.106]
