Backlight

In order to summarize this section it must be noted that the possibility to evaporate conjugated oligomers in such a way that their chain axes point predominantly in one direction allows us to determine the anisotropic electronic properties of conjugated molecules. From these studies it becomes evident that in order to obtain polarized absorption or emission of light as required in polarization Filters or LCD-backlights, the application of conjugated molecules is one of the most attractive areas of application for these materials. [Pg.147]

At the bar at Chino Latino, which looked about a city block long and was backlighted with yellow LED-like light, a young crowd in baseball caps and beautifully conditioned hair hoisted beer bottles and cocktail glasses and jammed themselves together happily like a child balling a piece of white bread. [Pg.46]

The cameras are usually used in two different modes, front light and backlight. Standard images using the front light technique are very useful in tracking particle movements, collisions, breakup, and coalescence (Figure 15.2). [Pg.334]

In backlight or shadowgraph technique, the light comes from behind and is directed toward the camera. This technique is very useful in measuring bubble or drop size distributions (Figure 15.3). [Pg.334]

Detection of the water-ether interface may prove troublesome backlighting of the separatory funnel by an intense light source is recommended. The same volume of ether must be used for each washing, even when the preparation is carried out on a smaller scale, e.g., one-half or one-third the scale described here. [Pg.34]

In the vapor-deposited OLED community, a number of approaches have been employed to produce white light emission. White OLEDs have been demonstrated based on multilayer structures, e.g., stacked backlights [153,168], multidoping of single-layer structures [145], phosphorescent monomer-excimer emission layers [169] and on doping of phosphorescent materials into separate bands within the emission zone, called a tri-junction [170]. The trijunction device has produced the highest white OLED efficiency of 16% external quantum efficiency demonstrated thus far [171]. [Pg.556]

One application for organic electroluminescent materials is in the construction of lightweight backlights for LC displays (see Chapter 3, section 3.8). If organic electroluminescent (OEL) materials emitted polarised light they could make the polariser... [Pg.320]

Another way of overcoming some of the problems of backlighting is to use the technique of reflection holography. In this process the recording reference beam is... [Pg.330]

Gas bubbles in liquid metals and in fluidized beds have been the subject of special studies because of their practical importance and because of the experimental difficulties associated with studying bubble properties in opaque media. Much of the work has been carried out in so-called two-dimensional columns, where a sheet of liquid or fluidized particles, typically 1 cm thick, is confined between two parallel transparent walls. Bubbles span the gap between the front and rear faces and can be observed with backlighting. [Pg.216]
