In order to address this issue, we have proposed a novel approach to identily the neural correlates of auditory selective attention which employs wavelet-based measure that... [Pg.569]

We have presented a performance study of using the WPS in identifying neural correlates of auditory selective attention that reflected in single sweeps ALRs. It is shown that the method requires fewer response sweeps to perform the discrimination of the attentional conditions (attended versus unattended) compared to the widely-used wavelet coherence coefficient methods. It is concluded that the WPS is feasible to be used in an objective evaluation of large-scale neural correlates of auditory selective attention as a synchronization measure. [Pg.572]

Knight (1994) reports that the effects of attention can onset as early as 25 ms after stimulation, indicating that humans are able to exert attention effects on inputs to the primary auditory cortex. Similar effects of selective attention have been reported in the visual and somatosensory modalities. [Pg.334]

Prenatal exposure to nicotine impairs auditory and visual attention, and this impairment is gender specific. When smoker or nonsmoker adolescents with or without prenatal exposure to maternal smoking were tested for auditory and visual-selective and divided attention, females exposed to tobacco smoke during adolescence or prenatal development showed reduced performance accuracy. Among males, marked deficits were observed in auditory attention (Jacobsen et al. 2007). [Pg.273]

In healthy volunteers dexchlorpheniramine caused impaired selective auditory attention in the absence of subjective awareness of this impairment (1). [Pg.1081]

The multiple-resource model of attention [Navon and Gopher, 1979 Wickens, 1980,1984] extends and specifies the resource concept by identifying several separate processing resources that are exclusive to a subset of activities. Results of numerous dual-task studies were used to distinguish separable resources. The model identifies different resource structures for verbal and auditory modalities, spatial and verbal codes, manual and vocal responses, and between (1) selection and execution of responses and (2) perceptual and central processing stages. [Pg.1313]
