In general, the rapid exchange of metal-bound H-atoms benefits from the nature of the Is valence orbital of hydrogen. The spherical shape of the Is orbital allows H-atom exchange to occur by associative mechanisms (with low barriers) in which H-H bond formation coincides with metal-hydrogen bond breaking. [Pg.131]

A novel curing agent called Vulcuren has been developed by Bayer, which is claimed will improve quality and eventually reduce costs in the moulding of large rubber products and tyres. Vulcuren creates crosslinks in diene rubbers in which the crosslink is made of carbon rather than sulphur atoms. Benefits reported, include a reduction in reversion, and an ability to control the length of the crosslink in order to achieve the desired dynamic properties. The potential advantages of LPG concern essentially the environmental aspects. LPG s are simple mixtures of 3- and 4-carbon-atom hydrocarbons with few contaminants (very low sulfur content). LPG s contain no noxious additives such as lead and their exhaust emissions have little or no toxicity because aromatics are absent. This type of fuel also benefits often enough from a lower taxation. In spite of that, the use of LPG motor fuel remains static in France, if not on a slightly downward trend. There are several reasons for this situation little interest from automobile manufacturers, reluctance on the part of automobile customers, competition in the refining industry for other uses of and fractions, (alkylation, etherification, direct addition into the gasoline pool). Detergent Additives. Diesel engine deposits ate most troublesome in the fuel dehvery system, ie, the fuel pump and both fuel side and combustion side of the injectors. Small clearances and high pressures mean that even small amounts of deposits have the potential to cause maldistribution and poor atomization in the combustion chamber. The same types of additives used in gasoline ate used in diesel fuel. Low molecular weight amines can also provide some corrosion inhibition as well as some color stabilization.
