ASTM D1646 Mooney Viscosity Test

The ASTM D1646 Mooney viscosity test and ASTM D6204 Part A Rubber Process Analyzer are commonly used to classify IR. There is no official classification system. However, Mooney viscosity and percent 1,4-ds-polyisoprene purity are two important parameters for classification purposes. [Pg.45]

Parallel plate or cone and plate rotational viscometers have been used to measure the viscosity of molten plastics and coatings for many years, but these types of viscometers are not commonly used to measure the viscosity of rubber. Because of the special nature of rubber, the Mooney viscometer has historically been used to measure and control the viscosity of raw rubbers as well as rubber compounds.
