Assurance meaning

Quality Assurance means all those actions that provide confidence that quality is achieved. [Pg.32]

Over the last 20 years, an effort has been made to reform the quality assurance system. In the past, primary importance was given to the control of the quality of the final product and of services at the interfaces during the construction process. Current quality assurance focuses more on process control during production. In this respect, quality assurance means quality management of processes and is directed as much toward the internal organization of each participant and to the interfaces between them. The purpose of this change is the reduction of faUure cost due to deficiencies in the project. [Pg.2295]

As a first step in the direction outlined here some manufacturers and BAM last year discussed the problems and the possible procedures of such a system of quality assurance. As a result of this meeting round robin tests for the harmonization of the measurements of film system parameters and a possible procedure of surveillance of the quality of film systems were proposed. Closely related to these the BAM offers to perform the classification of film systems. But as during the production of films variations of the properties of the different batches cannot be avoided, the results of measurements of films of a single batch will be restricted to this charge, while only the measurements and mean of several batches of a film type will give representative values of its properties. This fact is taken into account already in section 4 of the standard EN 584-1 which can be interpreted as a kind of continuous surveillance. Control charts were originally developed in the 1920s as a quality assurance tool for the control of manufactured products.Two types of control charts are commonly used in quality assurance a property control chart in which results for single measurements, or the means for several replicate measurements, are plotted sequentially and a precision control chart in which ranges or standard deviations are plotted sequentially. In either case, the control chart consists of a line representing the mean value for the measured property or the precision, and two or more boundary lines whose positions are determined by the precision of the measurement process. The position of the data points about the boundary lines determines whether the system is in statistical control. [Pg.714]

Standard reference materials provide a necessary but insufficient means for achieving accuracy and measurement compatibiUty on a national or international scale. Good test methods, good laboratory practices, well-qualified personnel, and proper intralaboratory and intedaboratory quaUty assurance procedures ate equally important. A systems approach to measurement compatibiUty is ikustrated in Figure 2. The function of each level is to transfer accuracy to the level below and to help provide traceabiUty to the level above. Distributors in industrial units typically have large numbers of injection points of quite diverse design characteristics, some of which are depicted in Eigure 16 for fluidized-bed appHcations. Flow variations through these parallel paths can lead to poor flow distributions within a reactor, thus reducing product yields and selectivity. In some circumstances, undesirable side products can foul portions of the distributor and further upset flow patterns. Steam (qv) sterilization specifically means sterilization by moist heat. The process cannot be considered adequate without assurance that complete penetration of saturated steam takes place to all parts and surfaces of the load to be sterilized (Fig. 1). Steam sterilization at 100°C and atmospheric pressure is not considered effective. The process is invariably carried out under higher pressure in autoclaves using saturated steam. It is conceptually impossible to be complete in a mathematical sense in the constmctioii oi event trees and fault trees. What matters is the approach to completeness and the abihiy lo demonstrate with reasonable assurance that only small contributions are omitted. It should be observed that every element except the powder system in the recovery system is chosen for favorable shock properties which can be confidently simulated numerically. The precise sample assembly procedures assure that the conditions calculated in the numerical simulations are actually achieved in the experiments. The influence of various powder compacts in influencing the shock pressure and mean-bulk temperature must be determined in computer experiments in which various material descriptions are used. Fortunately, the large porosity (densities from 35% to 75% of solid density) leads to a great simplification in that the various porous samples respond in the same manner due to the radial loading introduced from the porous inclusion in the copper capsule. [Pg.153]
