So my message to the chemical industry broadly and in particular to the segment of small businesses is to not let the PMN requirements limit your creative spirit in the development and commercialization of new chemicals. The Office of Toxic Substances in EPA stands ready to assist you at no cost in filling out the forms and distinguishing clearly what is minimally essential for risk assessment purposes from what is optional. We have trained consultants in the northeastern and mid-west sections of the country ready to travel to your location and advise you in a confidential way on PMNs. Our staff in Washington can be immensely helpful and you should feel free to discuss your specific situation with them. And, to top it off, we have one recently-retired experienced chemcial industry man concentrating his entire effort to assist the small business man in any TSCA-related matter. His name is Dr. Bob Toomey give him a call on the Industry Assistance Office toll-free line. [Pg.22]

Spanish Hemp Workers. Data collected on hemp workers have been offered in support of chronic respiratory effects associated with cotton dust exposure. Historically, hemp workers constituted the first group to call medical attention to their respiratory effects (27). More recent studies done on hemp workers, however, suggest similar limitations of methodology as mentioned above. The recruitment of subjects leaves much perplexity about the representative character of the group, when the source population is not accounted or even remotely described (28, 29, 30). The exposure length is not assessed (some of the workers have less than two years tenure) and/or the status of "retirement" is used uncritically as an index of exposure (29,... [Pg.207]

As you contemplate retirement, you are likely to be pulled between the attraction of work and the attraction of retiring. Each has positive features. At the same time, each may have some drawbacks. To help you assess the impact of retirement on your life, complete the following worksheet. (If appropriate, have your life partner complete it as well and then discuss each other s responses.)... [Pg.22]

Now that you have given some consideration to what you would gain and lose with retirement, both financially and otherwise, complete the Early Retirement Assessment Questionnaire that follows. It offers additional insights on whether you are a candidate to retire before earning full retirement benefits. [Pg.23]

Your emotional well-being is influenced by what you do with your time, where you live, and the relationships you have with friends and family. (These are all covered in later chapters in Part 4, Relationships. ) Planning for retirement gives you an opportunity to assess these issues and make whatever changes may be necessary. You can ease the trauma of retirement by attending to any concerns in advance so that there is minimal change when retirement becomes a reality. [Pg.32]

What about you Which route will you take To measure your attitude toward retirement, complete the following assessment by circling the appropriate number. Circling number 10 means you believe the statement in the left column is completely true for you circling number 1 means you believe the statement in the right column is completely true for you. If neither extreme fits, select the number that best fits you. When finished, total your score and write it in the box. [Pg.46]

If you score 80 or higher, it appears that you can make the most of retirement. If you score between 50 and 80, you re less enthusiastic but should be able to create a rewarding retirement. If you rated yourself under 50, complete the assessment again after you complete this book. [Pg.47]

Computer Systems Validation (CSV) The formal assessment and reporting of quality and performance measures for all the life-cycle stages of software and system development, its implementation, qualification and acceptance, operation, modification, requalification, maintenance, and retirement, such that the user has a high level of confidence in the integrity of both the processes executed within the controlling computer system(s), and in those processes controlled by and/or linked to the computer system(s), within the prescribed operating environments) (MCA). [Pg.179]

Human panel studies, since they have a relatively small number of subjects who can be closely monitored, offer the opportunity to obtain excellent exposure information. Personal pollution monitors can be used a mobile monitor can follow residents of a retirement community as they go about group activities a monitor within 100 m of a major urban road can assess pollution for those living in similar proximity to the same road monitors can be placed inside and just outside a home. [Pg.591]

There is no best way to retire a system. Depending on the situation, the optimal way of retiring a system can be anything from "pulling out the plug of the old and plug in the new system" up to very complex and expensive activities. For each situation, the optimal solution must be chosen based on a risk assessment and a cost/benefit analysis. The benefit of easy access to a possibly rare chance of occurrence should be assessed. [Pg.369]
