Assembly stand

Parr single-valve bomb, shown in contact with bottom of calorimeter pail. One electrical contact is made automatically through the pail to the body of the bomb. The bomb should be mounted on an assembly stand while it is being loaded with the sample. [Pg.154]

The bomb is expensive and mnst be handled carefully. In particular, be veiy careful not to scratch or dent the closure surfaces or strip the threads on the screw cap. When the bomb is dismantled, its parts should be mounted on the assembly stand or placed gently on a clean, folded towel. [Pg.155]

Hand layup. The oldest method is a purely manual operation. (1) The open female mold is first treated with mold release. (2) Optionally, a pigmented gel coat is applied 15 to 20 mils thick and partly cnred. (3) Glass fiber mat, or woven or knitted cloth, is hand-laid into the mold or onto the gel coat. (4) Thixotropic polyester/styrene liquid, containing MEK peroxide and activator, is impregnated into the cloth. (5) The assembly stands and cures at room temperature. This gives a product with one good surface and somewhat irregular thickness. [Pg.148]

An assembly operation required standing on a platform to get visual and physical access to parts being assembled. Shoulder strain injuries resulted from installing operations done above shoulder level. Work methods were redesigned. An assembly stand mounted on a hydraulic... [Pg.433]

For various reasons, such as to change the bit or drilling assembly, the drill string may have to be brought to surface. It is normal practice to pull stands consisting of 90 ft... [Pg.38]

The directive entitles the Commission to take, for safety reasons, any appropriate measures with respect to classification of pressure equipment or assemblies. In that task, the Commission is assisted by a standing committee on pressure equipment which is composed of representatives appointed by the Member States and chaired by a representative of tbe Commission. [Pg.943]

Assemble the apparatus shown in Fig. 56. F is a 200 ml. flat-bottomed flask supported on a sand-bath and connected by a glass delivery-tube to the wash-bottle B, which is about two-thirds full of 10% aqueous sodium hydroxide solution. A second delivery-tube leads from B into a beehive stand (or between two earthenware tiles placed side by side) in a pneumatic trough T containing water. [Pg.83]

A powerful stirrer, driven by a flexible driving shaft between the motor (I h.p.) and the stirrer, is depicted in Fig. II, 7, 3. The motor may be placed at a distance from the stirrer head and reaction vessel, thus enabling the assembly to be used for inflammable, corrosive or fuming liquids without damage to the motor. Furthermore, any laboratory retort stand and clamp may be used since the stirrer head weighs only about 250 grams. A variable speed control (500-2000 r.p.m.) is provided. [Pg.63]

An apparatus resembling that pictured by Schlatter is assembled in a good hood. Two 5-1. three-necked flasks are mounted side by side about 10 cm. apart and about 10 cm. above the bench top or stand base. These arc referred to as the left and right flasks. Kach flask is provided with a dry ice condenser in the outermost neck, and each condenser is [imlected from the... [Pg.1]

Fig. 18 shows a trio of autoclaves. In the foreground is a bond assembly on a wheeled tool ready to be placed in the autoclave. A technician stands at a control console next to a two-level rack used for holding multiple bond tools in the autoclave. [Pg.1163]

It is even possible that the system configuration is such that protecnon furnished by devices on one process component can protect others. That is, devices that may be required to provide adequate protection for a component standing alone may be redundant once all components are assembled in a system. This procedure is outlined below ... [Pg.399]

Fermi began to assemble a nuclear pile in a squash court under the football stands at the University of Chicago. This was really the first nuclear power reactor, in which a controlled, self-sustaining series of fission processes occurred. The controls consisted of cadmium rods inserted to absorb neutrons and keep the reactor from going... [Pg.500]

API Filtration. A filter press is used to determine the wall building characteristics of mud. The press consists of a cylindrical mud chamber made of materials resistant to strongly alkaline solutions. A filler paper is placed on the bottom of the chamber just above a suitable support. The filtration area is 7.1 ( 0.1) in.-. Below the support is a drain tube for discharging the filtrate into a graduate cylinder. The entire assembly is supported by a stand so that a 100-psi pressure can be applied to the mud sample in the chamber. At the end of the 30-min filtration time volume of filtrate is reported as API filtration in milliliters. To obtain correlative results, one thickness of the proper 9-cm filter paper, Whatman No. 50, S S No. 5765, or the equivalent, must be used. [Pg.654]

With remarkable accuracy, Democritus in the fifth century B.C. set the stage for modem chemistry. His atomic theory of matter, which he formulated without experimental verification, still stands, more or less intact, and encapsulates the profound truth that nature s stunning wealth boils down to atoms and molecules. As science uncovers the mysteries of the world around us, we stand ever more in awe of nature s ingenious molecular designs and biological systems nucleic acids, saccharides, proteins, and secondary metabolites are four classes of wondrous molecules that nature synthesizes with remarkable ease, and uses with admirable precision in the assembly and function of living systems. [Pg.1]

The first total synthesis of erythronolide B (1) by Corey stands as an event of great historical significance in synthetic chemistry it provides a powerful illustration of the utility of Corey s methods of macrolactonization and it demonstrates, in a particularly insightful way, the value of using readily accessible six-membered ring templates for the assembly of contiguous arrays of stereo-genic centers. [Pg.169]

As to the dollar-value of the Arsenal, its facilities are valued at over 500,000,000. The nature of these facilities varies, from the conventional to the nuclear. Conventional ammunition production lines, control laboratories and inspection systems are maintained in stand-by and are occasionally used in experimental or pilot-lot production. Nuclear weapons ammunition, components and devices are developed and produced in the. necessarily special research laboratories, proof-testing facilities and production and pilot assembly lines... [Pg.744]
