Chemical Abstracts. Chemical Abstracts (CA) [23] is a collection of chemical information, with nearly 16 million abstracts of journal articles, patents, and other documents. In addition, the CAOLD database contains over 3 million abstracts from 1907-1966. Sources for CA include more than 8000 journals, patents, technical reports, books, conference proceedings, and dissertations from around the world. CA patent database covers 29 national patent offices and two international bodies. About 16% of the CA database, approximately 2.5 million records, are from the patent literature. Chemical Abstracts is commercially available from the American Chemical Society in several formats. 

Existing synthetic methods and commercial processes that employ nitrile hydratases (NHases) and nitrilases continue to be improved by directed evolution of existing enzymes, or by the discovery of new enzymes with improved properties, and new applications of these catalysts have recently been described. Numerous reviews have previously been published that describe applications of NHase [ 1-6] and nitrilase [ 1,4—11 ], and in this review we present examples of new applications of these nitrile-utilizing catalysts from journal articles, patent applications, and issued patents that have been published in the past 2-3 years. 

In larger companies, the subject classification or indexing of technical articles, patents, and books greatly facilitates searching. A company with such a program is actually accumulating continuous searches in the subject classes of the classification system.

Sometimes a team is formed composed of library searchers and the technical men who will subsequently use the information found. Requests for art come to the library in so many different ways, the points of view are so varied, and the sources of published references are so divergent that it is difficult or impossible to formulate procedure for searching that will cover all cases. 

Data curation involves capturing of data from journals and patents to be entered into an ISIS-base template designed for a specific database. The data resources here were journal articles, patents, publicly available resources, conference abstracts, and industry brochures. When the data resource contains individually specified or characterized compounds, then it would be curated based on three criteria, quantitative activity data, qualitative activity data, and data containing no activity information. Curation of quantitative activity data was restricted to the number of scaffolds and kind of activity. When the activity was distinct to the compounds all the compounds reported in a data source were curated, while it was restricted to a maximum of 500 compounds covering all the scaffolds in the data source when a range of activities was reported.

Compared to journal articles, patents contain less theory, fewer citations, less extensive data, and may include prophetic procedures... 

In addition to his decision to leave the company and become independent, he also made a decision not to take his work underground. He has continued to publish much of his work over the years in various scientific publications, now totaling over 160 articles, patents, chapters and books.

PNCs have generated a significant amount of industrial and academic attention for the past 25 years. No matter the measure (articles, patents, or research and development funding), worldwide efforts in PNCs have been growing exponentially. For example, the total number of hits for polymer and nanocomposite on SciFinder (Chemical Abstract Service (CAS) of the American Chemical Society) from 1988 to 2005 is >9400, where the yearly number has approximately doubled every 2 years since 1992 [4]. 

In its 90th year of publication, CA continues to provide concise summaries and extensive indexes of the major disclosures reported in journal articles, patents, symposia and conference proceedings, dissertations, technical reports, and books. Fluidized beds have been studied during the last 35 years with an effort that is almost unique for a single type of process operation. Many thousands of articles, patents, several textbooks (i- ) and many review articles on special subjects appeared, while a considerable number of symposia have been devoted to this subject. This reflects also a wide spread use of fluid beds in physical operations and as a chemical reactor in chemical, petroleum, environmental, metallurgical and energy industries.
