Arsenilic acid

Arsenic trioxide finds major use in the preparation of other compounds, notably those used in agricultural applications, The compounds monosodium methylarsonate. disodium methylarsonate, methane arsenic acid (cacodylic acid) are used for weed control, while arsenic acid, H3ASO4, is used as a desiccant for the defoliation of cotton crops, Other compounds once widely used in agriculture are calcium arsenate for control of boll weevils, lead arsenate as a pesticide for fruit crops, and sodium arsenite as a herbicide and for cattle and sheep dip. In some areas, arsenilic acid has been used as a feed additive for swine and poultry. Restrictions on these compounds vary from one country and region to the next. [Pg.148]

Phenylarsonic arsenicals are less toxic to mammals than the inorganic arsenicals. Phenylarsonic compounds are usually incorporated in swine (and poultry) feed for disease control and to improve weight gain. Examples of these compounds include arsenilic acid, 3-nitroarsenilic acid, and 4-nitroarsenilic acid. Organic arsenicals are also available as trivalent and... [Pg.2813]

Several arsenic compounds have been used in veterinary medicine. Arsenilic acid (C HgAsNOj) was used to treat swine dysentery, and arsenamide (CnHijAsNOjSj) for heartworm infection in dogs. Roxarsone (3-nitro-4-hydroxyphenylarsonic acid) is still extensively used in the feed of broiler poultry to control coccidial intestinal parasites, improve feed efficiency, and promote rapid growth, and there is no indication that it will be soon replaced by another drug. [Pg.1343]

Organic arsenicals such as arsenilic acid, 3-nitro-4-hydroxyphenylarsonic acid, 4-nitrophenylarsonic acid, and p-ureidobenzenearsonic acid have been used as a feed additive since the 1950 s [4]. The U.S. Food and Administration approves of all four of these compounds for use in poultry and swine feeds but only at levels low enough to preclude residues in edible animal tissues which would be hazardous to human health [10]. In France and other countries almost all uses of these compounds are forbidden. [Pg.28]
