Calcium arsenates

Wet Process. The sodium arsenate and stannate slag are treated by a leach and precipitation process to produce calcium arsenate, calcium stannate, and a sodium hydroxide solution for recycle. The sodium antimonate filtercake containing selenium, tellurium, and indium is treated in a special metals refinery to recover indium and tellurium. [Pg.45]

Miscellaneous. Both whiting and hydrated lime are used as diluents and carriers of pesticides, such as lime—sulfur sprays, Bordeaux, calcium arsenate, etc. The most widely used bleach and sterilizer, high test calcium hypochlorite, is made by interacting lime and chlorine (see Bleaching AGENTS). Calcium and magnesium salts, such as dicalcium phosphate, magnesium chloride, lithium salts, etc, are made directly from calcific and dolomitic lime and limestone. [Pg.178]

Monosodium methanearsonate (MSMA) [2163-80-6] CH AsONaOOH, disodium methanearsonate (DSMA) [144-21-8], CH2AsO(NaO)2, cacodyhc acid [75-60-5], (CH2)2AsOOH, and arsenic acid [7778-39-4], H AsO, are used ia agriculture appHcations (11,12). MSMA, DMSA, and cacodyUc acid are used as herbicides (qv) especially ia cotton (qv) fields for the control of Johnson and nutsedge grass and other weeds. Arsenic acid (13) and cacodyhc acid may be used as a desiccant for the defoHation of the cotton boU prior to harvesting. Calcium arsenate [7778-44-1], Ca2(As0 2> once an important chemical for the control of the boU weevil and cotton worm, has disappeared from appHcation and the use of lead arsenate [7784-40-9], Pb AsO, for fmit crops is currentiy restricted. [Pg.329]

In 1916, calcium arsenate [7778-44-1] dusted by airplane was used to control the boU weevil however, throughout many developments in effective insecticides, such as organophosphates, the boU weevils became resistant to poisons that were formerly effective (see Insectcontroltechnology). [Pg.309]

C18-0112. The solubility of calcium arsenate, Ca3 (As04)2, in water is 0.036 g/L. Use this information to calculate sp for this salt. [Pg.1343]

The local formulator who purchases concentrated products from the manufacturer has his problems. More frequently than not the advent of a new product catches him with a stock of some older chemical which the new one will replace. Lead and calcium arsenates, rotenone, pyrethrum, sabadilla, and others all have lost some usage to the newer economic poisons. Costs such as these cannot be passed on to consumers because of that grand American institution, competition. [Pg.14]

The use of plant extracts for insect control dates into antiquity the use of Paris green as an insecticide for control of the Colorado potato beetle in 1867 probably marks the beginning of the modern era of chemical control of injurious insects. The development of lead arsenate followed later in the nineteenth century for gypsy moth control. The commercial production of nicotine insecticides, the production of calcium arsenate at the time of the first world war, and the use of fluorine, arsenical, and cyanide compounds, as well as other inorganic chemicals for insect control, were important steps in pest control. These chemicals were applied largely by dilute high pressure sprays or dusts. [Pg.218]
