Anti-infective biological activity

Characterization of Anti-Infective Biological Activity. Acute sepsis models utilizing either Escherichia coli or Staphylococcus aureus intraperitoneal challenge were developed to evaluate the anti-infective properties of PGG in mice. [Pg.47]

Specific biological activity of carboxylic acids peroxide derivatives in compaiison with their oxidation ability and ionization degree in aqueous solutions has been considered. Peroxyoctanoic, diperoxynonandioic and diperoxydecandioic acids give the most intense bactericidal effect among researched cai boxylic acids peroxide derivatives. The perspectives of use of the aliphatic middle-chain peracid C8-C9 as anti-infective agents have been discussed. [Pg.344]

TNF-a, IL-12, and GMCSF (CaudeU et aL, 2002). However, when IL-24 is over expressed via an adenovirus gene delivery system, it selectively induces apoptosis of cancer cells but not normal cells (Madireddi et at, 2000 Mhashilkar et at, 2001). The mechanisms that distinguish the different biological activities of lL-24 are currently under intense investigation. Finally, lL-26 was identified as a molecule secreted by T-cells infected with herpesvirus saimiri (Knappe et at, 2000). lL-26 has been shown to be up-regulated in NK and T cells by 1L-2/1L-12 and anti-CD3 antibody. However, the specific functional properties of lL-26 have not been reported. [Pg.174]

Despite its widespread and long history of use its specific mechanism of action is not established. It elicits several biological and immunological responses including anti-infective, anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory activities. The present evidence seems to be that the multiple effects work in concert with each other. Each mechanism contributes differently depending on the disease (Ballow, 2005 Shah, 2005). [Pg.557]

The synthesis and biological activity of the new acyclic heterodinucleotide (113) that consists of both an antiherpetic (acyclovir) and an antiretroviral (2-(phosphonomethoxy)propyl-adenine) drug linked by a pyrophosphate bridge were reported. The heterodinucleotide (113), prepared from the reaction of a morpholidate derivative of PMPA and the tributylammonium salt of acyclovir monophosphate in the presence of pyridine, behaved as a pro-drug in macrophages. Anti-HIV and anti-HSV activity of this compound were demonstrated in HIV-lfia-L and HSV-1-infected macrophages. ... [Pg.191]

Abstract Benzimidazole is a biologically important scaffold which displays important biological activities. Recent progress in the synthesis and bioactivity of benzimidazoles is reviewed. New synthetic procedures, including microwave-assisted synthesis, solid phase synthesis, natural product synthesis, and synthesis of bisbenzimidazoles are briefly described. Functionalization and cyclization reactions of benzimidazoles lead to a wide variety of novel benzimidazole structures. Selected bioactivity, such as anti-infective, anti-inflammatory, antitumor and receptor agonist/antagonist activities are presented. [Pg.87]

The most commonly reported biological activity for proteins derived from natural products is anti-bacterial activity. It appears as if every living organism has developed some mechanism by which to prevent infection by or direct competition with bacteria, including other bacteria. One such... [Pg.489]
