Anti-Corrosive Paints

Anti-corrosive pigments may be used in etch primer formulations (see above), or as components of the closely related anti-corrosive paints which are based on alkyd resins or other organic binders. Among the compounds used for the latter are [22]

The action of these anti-corrosive paints is believed in most cases to result from the release of acid phosphate anions, caused by slow water penetration. 

Zinc phosphate tetrahydrate, Zn3(P04)2 4H2O, (and the dihydrate) can be used with a large number of binders to give products with a wide range of applications. The acid phosphate anions they release form a protective layer of Fe/Zn phosphates on iron and steel surfaces. The acid phosphates CaHP04 and MgHP04 are sometimes used in conjunction with various organic binders [23]. In addition, Zn/Al triphosphates have also found use [51]. 

Phosphate-based corrosion inhibitors are sometimes mixed with zinc silicates [51].

An MS tank with a wall thickness of 3 mm is adequate, otherwise the thickness can be similar to that for the degreasing lank but without the healing arrangement. It may also be coated with an anti-corrosive paint to enhance its life. 

To rinse, wash the surface in clear, continuous running water to remove all traces of soluble salts which may cause blistering on the surface. The tank can be similar to the phosphating lank. It may, however, be coated with an anti-corrosive paint to extend its life.

The selection of an anti-corrosion paint-coating scheme should be undertaken by a qualified expert. 

Improvements in process and quality control made significant contributions to the transition from iron to steel as the major ferrous construction material over a century and a half ago. For most of that time red lead was relied upon, and not without a remarkable degree of success, as the rust-inhibitive pigment in anti-corrosive paints. In the last twenty years, however, there has been a similar dramatic change from such simple paints as red lead to synthetic polymer coatings which have as complex a technology as steel manufacture itself. 

Anti-fouling tests were carried out on brush coated plastic laminate panels which had been given a primary coating of anti-corrosion paint. Performance was measured by visual observations of the panels after prolonged immersion (4 - 12 months) in a known high-fouling estuarine environment. 

The tanks shall be placed on I-beams which are fixed on civil foundations. The tank bottom plates shall have anti-corrosive paint. 

Corrosion-inhibiting paint See anti-corrosion paint or composition. 

Micaceous iron oxide n. Naturally occurring iron ore which resembles mica only in appearance and not chemically. It is converted to a grayish pigment, which has value as a constituent of anti-corrosive paints and protective coatings. Density, 4.90 g/cm (40.8lb/gal) O.A., 11/200 lb hardness (Mohs), 6.0 ph, 7.7. 

Procure only anti-skid gratings, in removable section for making work platforms (to enable maintenance/replacement of equipment etc.). They should be obtained with coating of anti-corrosive paints. Rubber coating may be employed and workers instmcted to use shoes with rabber soles to avoid sparking when explosive or inflammable vapours are present neaiby. 

Material to be dried per tray. (Capacity of each tray as dry material in kilogram.) MOC of trays and internals. In case of evolution of acidic vapours, the inside should have acid-resistant coating of fibre reinforced plastic or special anti corrosive paint. 

The electrodes were divided into three categories namely, 3 untreated electrodes, 3 electrodes painted with anti-corrosion paint and 12 electrodes treated according with system I and system II.
