Simulations of the adaptive reconstruction have been performed for a single slice of a porosity in ferritic weld as shown in Fig. 2a [11]. The image matrix has the dimensions 230x120 pixels. The number of beams in each projection is M=131. The total number of projections K was chosen to be 50. For the projections the usual CT setup was used restricted to angels between 0° and 180° with the uniform step size of about 3.7°. The diagonal form of the quadratic criteria F(a,a) and f(a,a) were used for the reconstruction algorithms (5) and (6).

I met him many years later in Los Angeles, and we reminiseed about it. 

I considered my role mainly to try to help my colleagnes while jealonsly safegnarding most of my time for research and scholarship. I proceeded in the same way in Cleveland and later in Los Angeles, when starting the Hydrocarbon Research Institute at USC. 1 have been fortunate never to have been bitten by the bug that makes many people feel important by exercising administrative power. ...

In the fall of 1976 I had a call from a friend, Sid Benson, who, after a decade at the Stanford Research Institute, just returned to the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles. He invited me for a visit, telling me about USC s plans to build up seleeted programs, ineluding chemistry. I visited USC and found it, with its close to downtown urban campus, quite different from the sprawling expanse of the eross-town eampus of UCLA, whieh I had visited on a number of oe-... 

Petroleum—a natural mineral oil—was referred to as early as the Old Testament. The word petroleum means rock oil [from the Greek petros (rock) and elaion (oil)]. It has been found for centuries seeping out of the ground, for example, in the Los Angeles basin in what are now called the La Brea tar pits. Vast deposits were found in Europe, Asia, the Americas, and Africa.

It was a long journey that led me from Budapest through Cleveland to Los Angeles with a side trip to Stockholm. Sometimes I still wonder how life unfolds in ways we could not have planned or foreseen.
