We used the measurements of organic carbon and uranium in a sea core, made by Paul R. Doose, Emil K. Kalil, and I. R. Kaplan of the University of California at Los Angeles, and we compared our stable isotope measurements with Hans Suess measurements of radiocarbon in the bristlecone pine ring sequence prepared by Wesley Fergusson, (see fig. 27), Suess at the University of California at San Diego, and Fergusson at the University of Arizona, Tucson. 

Twenty years ago two researchers laboring diligently at the University of California at Los Angeles developed the first modified asymmetric membranes which seemed to have commercial potential for what was to become the exciting field that today is known as hyperfiltration or reverse osmosis. Since that time, these dedicated scientists have given freely of themselves and their talents not only to further contribute technically, but also to help guide, teach, and train others to grow in this frontier area. 

After 1978, Bullard held academic appointments at a number of universities, including Rice (1980), the University of Tennessee (1987-88), the University of California at Berkeley (1988-89), the University of California at Riverside (1989-93), and the University of California at Los Angeles (1993-94). In 1994, Bullard was appointed to his current position as Ware Professor of Sociology and director of the Environmental Justice Resource Center at Clark Atlanta University.
