Analysis calculation methods

J. E. Williams, P. J. Stang, and P. v. R. Schleyer, Annu. Rev. Phys. Chem., 19, 531 (1968). Physical Organic Chemistry Quantitative Conformational Analysis Calculation Methods. [Pg.96]

In practical cases the natural period of the first pendulum is much lower than the natural period of the second (e.g. 0.5 s vs. 5 s). The two pendulums are, therefore, decoupled. As a consequence, because the first pendulum is the one which directly receives the ground vibration and the second receives the vibration of the first one, the first pendulum will tend to oscillate with a period close to its natural one without being significantly influenced by the second one. These qualitative analyses are confirmed by dynamic analysis calculation methods (USAEC 1963 ASCE 1986). [Pg.170]

Calculational methods. Associating the analysis, the knowledge of the property-structure relationships, and the calculation methods has made possible the replacement of costly and arduous test methods by quicker tests whose results are linked by calculations to the characteristic under study. Some examples are the cetane number, in some cases, the octane number, or the characteristics of LPG (refer to Chapter 3). [Pg.296]

There are three steps in carrying out any quantum mechanical calculation in HyperChem. First, prepare a molecule with an appropriate starting geometry. Second, choose a calculation method and its associated (Setup menu) options. Third, choose the type of calculation (single point, geometry optimization, molecular dynamics, Langevin dynamics, Monte Carlo, or vibrational analysis) with the relevant (Compute menu) options. [Pg.107]

Generally, a vibration analysis calculation should be performed after a geometry optimization with the same method. This ensures that the calculation of second derivatives is performed at a configuration for which all first derivatives are zero. [Pg.124]

All the early calculations were based on simple beam analysis. The method was improved when the summation of moments was introduced by Myklestead [5] and Prohl [6],... [Pg.385]

Life cycle cost (LCC) calculations are made to make sure that both the purchase price and the operating costs for life cycle are considered in investment decisions. In the chapter the basic calculation methods and sensitivity analysis are introduced. Examples of calculation results and references to LCC information sources are given. [Pg.7]

Atoms defined in this way can be treated as quantum-mechanically distinct systems, and their properties may be computed by integrating over these atomic basins. The resulting properties are well-defined and are based on physical observables. This approach also contrasts with traditional methods for population analysis in that it is independent of calculation method and basis set. [Pg.198]

With computers the finite element analysis (FEA) method has greatly enhanced the capability of the structural analyst to calculate displacement, strain, and stress values in complicated plastic structures subjected to arbitrary loading conditions. Details on FEA are reviewed in Chapter 2, Finite Element Analysis. [Pg.32]

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of this set of studies is the question posed in the recent paper by Schmidt et al. (2004) and deals with the reality of the patterns they observed. Is the polymorphism observed a result of the calculation methods used in the study, neural network (NN), and multivariate statistical analysis (MVA) Would increased sampling result in a greater number of chemo-types It is entirely possible, of course, that the numbers obtained in this study are a true reflection of the biosynthetic capacities of the plants studied. The authors concluded—and this is a point made elsewhere in this review—that ... for a correct interpretation a good knowledge of the biosynthetic background of the components is needed. ... [Pg.49]

The method has been proposed for the prediction of retention data in isocratic systems from data measured in gradient elution and vice versa [84], Similar calculation methods may be very important in the analysis of natural extracts containing pigments with highly different chemical structure and retention characteristics. The calculations make possible the rational design of optimal separation conditions with a minimal number of experimental runs. [Pg.33]

As no clear-cut conclusion can be drawn from the analysis of these ab initio calculations it is not surprising that further attempts have been made to answer the question of the existence of a special captodative effect by improving the calculational methods. Clark (Clark, 1988) has carried out extensive calculations for the cyanomethyl-, amlnomethyl- and aminocyano-methyl-radical system by perturbational methods including different amounts of correlation. The results using the isodesmic reactions (5)-(8) are shown in Table 5. [Pg.144]

Brands proposed a calculation method in the case of segregation A special type of inhomogeneous, particulate objects is the surface analysis by microscopic techniques e.g. analytical electron sj troscopy, laser induced mass spectroscopy or proton-induced X-ray emission. Here the minimum sample size can be translated into the minimum number of specific sample points in the specimen under investigation. [Pg.51]

Insofar as the scale-up of pharmaceutical liquids (especially disperse systems) and semisolids is concerned, virtually no guidelines or models for scale-up have generally been available that have stood the test of time. Uhl and Von Essen [54], referring to the variety of rules of thumb, calculation methods, and extrapolation procedures in the literature, state, Unfortunately, the prodigious literature and attributions to the subject [of scale-up] seemed to have served more to confound. Some allusions are specious, most rules are extremely limited in application, examples give too little data and limited analysis. Not surprisingly, then, the trial-and-error method is the one most often employed by formulators. As a result, serendipity and practical experience continue to play large roles in the successful pursuit of the scalable process. [Pg.78]
