Anaerobic liquid

A 10-fold dilution series was used, from 10 to 10 , for each group of microorganisms (SRB and GAnB). Firstly, 1 ml of the sample was injected into a vial containing 9 ml of anaerobic liquid medium and a vial containing 9 ml of a reducing solution. The vials were... [Pg.443]

These substances are not true adhesives and have little adhesion to the surface of the threads. They consist of anaerobic liquids that polymerise in the absence of air, a process that may be accelerated by the extremely thin film of oxide always present on the metal. The solid polymer that forms in the gap or clearance space between the mating threads has the effect of increasing the friction, so requiring more force to unscrew the components. In this... [Pg.108]

Another emerging area m biofuels is pyrolysis, which is the decomposition of biomass into other more usable fuels using a high-temperature anaerobic process. Pyrolysis converts biomass into charcoal and a liquid called biocrude. This liquid has a high energy density and is cheaper to transport and store than the unconverted biomass. Biocrude can be burned in boilers or used in a gas turbine. Biocrude also can be chemical by altered into other fuels or chemicals. Use of pyrolysis may make bioenergy more feasible in regions not near biomass sources. Biocrude is about two to four times more expensive than petroleum crude. [Pg.160]

Screening of cells for pectinase activity was done on MP-5 medium [5] after precipitation of polygalacturonic acid with 1% Cetrimide (Sigma). Liquid culture experiments were done under the self-induced anaerobic conditions [6]. [Pg.861]

The harmful liquid that collects at the bottom of a landfill is known as leachate. The generation of leachate is a result of uncontrolled runoff, and percolation of precipitation and irrigation water into the landfill. Leachate can also include the moisture content initially contained in the waste, as well as infiltrating groundwater. Leachate contains a variety of chemical constituents derived from the solubilization of the materials deposited in the landfill and from the products of the chemical and biochemical reactions occurring within the landfill under the anaerobic conditions. [Pg.573]

CH4 emitted from manure depends primarily on (i) the management system such as solid disposal system, liquid disposal systems, e.g., ponds, lagoons, and tanks, which can emit up to 80% of manure-based CH4 emissions, while solid manure emits little or no CH4. (ii) Environmental conditions are also important. The higher the temperature and moisture, the more CH4 produced, (iii) CH4 emissions also depend on the quantity of the manure produced, which depends on the number of animals housed, the amount of feed the consumed, and the digestibility of the feed, (iv) Manure characteristics depend on the animal type, feed quality, and rumen microbes present in the rumen and digestive tracks. Manure handled in liquid form tends to release more amount of CH4 when compared to solid or manures thrown into the pasture, which do not decompose anaerobically. High temperatures with neutral pH and high moisture content enhance CH4 production [45],... [Pg.251]
