The reaction takes place with an excess of reactant which is ariaryzed later in accordance with a method described by the Amoco company. 

Currendy, about 40% of the PX produced woddwide uses crystallization technology. A number of crystallization processes have been commercialized over the years. The more common ones are those developed by Chevron, Kmpp, Amoco, ARCO (LyondeU), and Phillips. Some of the features of these processes are discussed herein. 

The three major commercial Hcensors of xylenes isomerization processes are Engelhard, UOP, and Mobil. Several other companies have developed and used their own catalysts. These companies include Mitsubishi Gas—Chemical, Toray, ICI, Amoco, and Shell. AH of these processes are discussed herein. 

Zeolite and Molecular Sieve-Based Process. Mobil has commercialized several xylene isomerization processes that are based on ZSM-5. Amoco has developed a process based on a medium-pore borosiUcate molecular sieve. 

U.S. producers and capacities for PX, OX, and EB are summarized ia Table 8. Amoco is the only producer of MX with an annual capacity of 110,000 t. In recent years, many small xylene plants have shut down because the operations were not economic or the technology being used was obsolete.

Coal Liquefaction at Wilsonville. Starting ia 1974 the Advanced Coal Liquefaction R D Facihty at WilsonviUe, Alabama operated a 6 t/d pilot plant and studied various coal Hquefaction processiag schemes. The facihty, cosponsored by the DOE, the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and Amoco Oil Co, was shut down ia early 1992. 

Witco, and Amoco. In Europe magnesium saHcyclates are an alternative detergent manufactured by SheU Chemical.

The Amoco reactor operates at 70—80°C and 2 MPa (300 psi) reactor pressure. The existence of several partially isolated compartments allows a semi-iadependent control of temperature as well as comonomer and hydrogen concentrations within each section, which ia turn offers a substantial control of the molecular weight and MWD of resias. Amoco technology also accommodates a large variety of polymerization catalysts, including Phillips and Ziegler catalysts. 

The producers of polypropylene in the United States, western Europe, and Japan are Hsted in Table 7. MonteU is the largest producer in both western Europe (followed by BoreaUs) and the United States (followed by Amoco).
