Established in 1902, British American Tobacco (BAT) is the world s most international tobacco group, with an active business presence in 180 countries. BAT employs almost 90,000 people worldwide. In June 1988 the tobacco industry lost its first court case involving liability in the death of a smoker after heavy, chronic cigarette use.
