James B. Fair, Ph.D., P.E., Professor of Chemical Engineering, University of Texas National Academy of Engineering Fellow, American Institute of Chemical Engineers Member, American Chemical Society, American Society for Engineering Education, National Society of Professional Engineers (Section 14, Gas Absorption and Gas-Liquid System Design)... [Pg.11]

This work was supported by the Independent Research program at the Naval Ocean Systems Center. The authors are indebted to Drs. Eugene Cooper and Alan Gordon. J.W.S. is partially supported by the Office of Naval Technology through the American Society for Engineering Education. [Pg.166]

Since statehood, respondents remark that the Tunisian model of education has always been based on the French system, which itself has recently been moving towards pan-European settings. However, respondents characterize the creation of the Bologna Process (Reinalda and Kulesza 2005) and the subsequent development of Euro-level standards (European Network for the Accreditation of Engineering Education Augusti et al. 2007) as a move more towards the American model. [Pg.396]

Within Trrrrisia, schools formed in partnership with American or other international rmiversities are not unique. For example, in partnership with an Ameriean rmiversity, the South Mediterranean University was formed and now boasts a rarrk as one of the top 1000 business schools in the world. It very expUcitly brrilds on American higher education practices (Systemes d information a d.). While its focus is not on engineering, the adverrt of an American-accredited rrrriversity operating tmder a partnership with a US institution (University of Maryland) is seen as having the potential to drastically change the landscape of the Trrrrisian system if more similar projects were developed. [Pg.401]

It can be seen from the above historical overview that the tradition of Engineering Education in Lebanon goes back to the year 1913, starting with the French Engineering School of Saint Joseph University, and the Faculty of Engineering at the American University of Beimt. These two systems have framed the Engineering Education in Lebanon. [Pg.87]

The initiative of the European institutions to move to a BS/MS system that is at least similar to the US system promises to reduce or eliminate these problems, and is welcomed in the US. However, there remain some real differences that may still limit the goal of increasing mobility across the Atlantic, especially from the US to Europe. This paper provides an American perspective on the proposed programs, and thoughts on the problems that may continue to inhibit Transatlantic articulation. First, a review of some salient characteristics of US Engineering Education, and a view from the opposite side ofthe Atlantic ofthe "traditional" European structure. [Pg.129]
