The Library/Educational Resources Section of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy maintains the AACP Basic Resources for Pharmaceutical Education [53]. The reader is referred to this list of books, periodicals, bibliographies, guides, handbooks, dictionaries, directories, and web sites important to pharmacy. The list contains specific sections for the pharmaceutical sciences, including pharmaceutics, biopharmaceutics and pharmacokinetics, cosmetics and industrial pharmacy.

The pharmaceutical industry is represented by several organizations. Examples are the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, the Non-Prescription Drug Manufacturers Association, and the National Pharmaceutical Council, The schools and colleges of pharmacy are organized as the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, representing both schools and colleges, and faculty members.

The previously developed Competency Validation Tool (National Or ganization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties and American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2002) was used to establish competency rele vance, specificity, and comprehensiveness.

International Pharmaceutical Abstracts, available electronically from 1970, from the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, may only index around 800 journal titles but, as its name suggests, it specializes in pharmacy literature from around the world. A study by Bonnie Snow found that 12% of IPA s journals were not covered by MEDLINE, EMBASE, BIOSIS Previews, or Chemical Abstracts. IPA has also indexed ASHP meetings since 1988, meetings of the American Association of College Pharmacists and the American Pharmacy Association. All records have abstracts.

In July, 1989, Dr. William A. Miller, President of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP), appointed the Commission to Implement Change in Pharmacy Education to consider, debate, and offer recommendations on a scries of issues pivotal to the further development of pharmacy education in the United States.
