Aluminum aluminate glasses

Triethyl- aluminum Full protection clothing preferably of aluminized glass cloth, goggles, face shield, gloves, in case of fire all purpose canister or self-contained breathing apparatus. Only fumes from fire need to be considered, metal fume fever is not critical lasting less than 36 hours. Wash with water. Treat burns if fire occurred and gets medical attention. Flush with copious amounts of water with lids held open and treat burns if fire occurred and get medical attention. [Pg.362]

In processes with conventional quench rates of 10 K/s, the inviscid liquid (melt) or resulting jet is carefully under- or supercooled to its narrow fiber forming range (log 2.5 to log 3.0 poise). Three types of fibers have been made by variants of this process continuous optical yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) glass fibers, continuous aluminate glass fibers and steel fibers. [Pg.105]

Continuous aluminate glass fibers are formed in the presence of propane, but not in its absence. A viable mechanism of jet stabilization must therefore explain (1) the function of carbon which enters into the surface or skin of the molten jet, (2) the function of carbides and carbonates which are instantly formed in the molten jet surface, and (3) the increase in tetrahedral from octahedral coordination of aluminum atoms in the surface [51] before the fiber solidifies and secondary overgrowth with carbon can occur. [Pg.111]

Multilayer Insulation Miiltilayer insulation consists of alternating layers of highly reflec ting material, such as aluminum foil or aluminized Mylar, and a low-conduc tivity spacer material or insulator, such as fiberglass mat or paper, glass fabric, or nylon net, all under high vacuum. When properly applied at the optimum density, this type of insulation can have an apparent thermal conduc tivity as low as 10 to 50 jlW/m-K between 20 and 300 K. [Pg.1134]

Cryolite is utilized in the manufacture of aluminum, in the processing of aluminum waste (as a flux in the electrochemical removal of magnesium), as a flux in the aluminization of steel and in welding technology, in the manufacture of glass and enamel, as an additive in the manufacture of abrasives and as an auxiliary product in the remelting of light metals. [Pg.140]

Aluminum for the manufacture of aluminum-rich zeolites is obtained from sodium aluminate solutions, which are obtained by dissolving aluminum oxide hydrate in sodium hydroxide. Silica is used in the form of water glass, fine particulate silica (e.g. silica fillers) or silica sols. The cheaper water glass is preferred, but exhibits the lowest activity of the above-mentioned sources of silica. The reaction has therefore to be carried out in a special way to... [Pg.344]

However, Kondo [3 ] is of the opinion that the hydrolysis of the glass in water occurs and the calcium ions are released initially to the liquid phase. Simultaneously on the surface of slag grains an acid, colloidal shell of silica-alumina gel is formed. This shell has low permeability and hence the further slag reaction with water is hindered. In the presence of Ca(OH)2, added as alkaline activator, the siUcon and aluminum from the shell are released to the solution (Fig. 8.2). The solubiUty of aluminum compounds becomes considerably increased in the solution of pH higher than 12.5 because in this condition the Al(OH) ions are formed [4]. The concentration of aluminum in the liquid phase is increasing because the calcium aluminates crystallize a httle later, primarily the C-S-H (1) is formed. Simultaneously the solubility of hydrates formed in this condition is reduced. [Pg.585]

As substrates standard microscope glass slides, aluminum foils, metallized plastic foils like prefabricated aluminated or titanium-coated polyethylene-terephthalate proved to be suited. A wide variety of polymers as e.g. polycarbonate or polyethylene-... [Pg.172]

The aluminized Mylar was not as effective as aluminum foil, since the material was transparent to some extent. Tests conducted several years ago indicated that several layers of aluminized Mylar separated by a spacer were required to indicate an emissivity equivalent to thin aluminum foil [3]. The glass fiber paper— aluminum foil combination resulted in a reduction of the apparent thermal conductivity by a factor of two over that measured for aluminized Mylar and glass fiber paper. Further tests on other spacers are under way and preliminary data indicate that a further reduction in the apparent thermal conductivity may be possible. [Pg.222]
