Donor and acceptor levels are the active centers in most phosphors, as in zinc sulfide [1314-98-3] ZnS, containing an activator such as Cu and various co-activators. Phosphors are coated onto the inside of fluorescent lamps to convert the intense ultraviolet and blue from the mercury emissions into lower energy light to provide a color balance closer to daylight as in Figure 11. Phosphors can also be stimulated directly by electricity as in the Destriau effect in electroluminescent panels and by an electron beam as in the cathodoluminescence used in television and cathode ray display tubes and in (usually blue) vacuum-fluorescence alphanumeric displays. [Pg.421]

The Metrohm E 636 Titroprocessor (Fig. 5.12) offers in principle the same possibilities as the Mettler MemoTitrators, but with some additional features concerning its operation, illustrated by the schematic diagram in Fig. 5.13, using the usual microprocessor terminology62 1, CPU 2, RAM 3, ROM 4, Bus 5, I/O interface 6,16-place alphanumeric display 7, numerical push-buttons 8, function and control buttons 9, card reader (for routine analysis) 10, alphanumeric thermoprinter for curves (normal and first derivative) and data on... [Pg.342]

A larger number of companies are active in the LEP area. DuPont s purchase of Uniax and its technology gave them the necessary intellectual property to marry with their expertise in plastic substrates. Their aim is to produce devices on thin flexible substrates such as nylon and PET etc. that, they believe, will bring a manufacturing cost advantage over low MW materials. It is collaborating with Phillips who has a production scale unit in Holland for small alphanumeric displays suitable for watches and mobile phones. [Pg.238]

Computers enable important communication interactions between the analyzer and the operator. Alphanumeric displays on monitors or on light-emitting diode arrays provide operator-readable information and signals. The signals may instruct the operator to intervene to replen-... [Pg.279]

Input control switches include front panel controls, footswitch controls, and handswitch controls. To make operating an ESU more uniform between models and manufacturers, and to reduce the possibility of operator error, the ANSl/AAMl/lEC 60601-2-2 standard [6] makes specific recommendations concerning the physical construction of ESUs and prescribes mechanical and electrical performance standards. For instance, front panel controls need to have their function identified by a permanent label and their output indicated on alphanumeric displays or on graduated scales the pedals of foot switches need to be labeled and respond to a specified activation force and if the active electrode handle incorporates two finger switches, their positions have to correspond to specific functions. Additional recommendations can be found in Reference 6. [Pg.303]

Instrument and computer applications of these discrete devices include indicator lamps, numeric and alphanumeric displays, and LED backlighting of liquid crystal displays. Higher performance LEDs are often used for the backlighting application. Consumer electronics applications (audio equipment, home appliances, clocks, radios, toys, etc.) include discrete indicator lamps and numeric and alphanumeric displays. [Pg.96]

Black-dyed phase-change devices have been accepted as replacements for mechanical alphanumeric displays in aircraft cockpits. This is because their angle of view is superior to the TN and their appearance more closely resembles the mechanical displays that they are replacing. [Pg.105]

A microprocessor controlled instrument, Sargent Welch Model 7001, also performs pulse techniques. A 20-character alphanumeric display and a 30-touch button keypad allow the user to specify the experiment. After recording a voltammogram, smoothing, averaging, and background subtraction are options. The price in 1980 was 8800. Pulse widths from 1 to 1000 ms may be chosen, with sampling from 100 x3 after pulse initiation to 500 ps before the end of each pulse. [Pg.391]

After only a decade of development, PLEDs indeed seem to have matured to the edge of commercial exploitation. The technology is expected to initially address the market for small- and medium-sized alphanumeric displays, as used in calculators, handheld telephones, pagers, car radios, personal digital assistants information readouts on household appliances, and in automobiles, which has a current annual volume of about US 2.5 billion, with high growth rates expected. [Pg.4231]

Microbalances with alphanumerical display and electronic data recording systems allow one to observe the approach to equilibrium for gas adsorption processes in porous sorbent samples. Typical relaxation times can be one or several seconds, minutes, hours, and -sometimes - even days, cp. helium adsorption data Sect. 2 of Chap. 1. Hence gravimetric measurements do allow one to check whether an adsorption system actually has reached its equilibrium state, i. e. these measurements deliver in principle also information concerning the kinetics of the adsorption process, represented for example by (phenomenological) diffusion coefficients, cp. Sect. 2.3 and Sect. 4.4 and [3.27, 3.48). [Pg.167]

Voltmeters, alphanumeric displays, electric motors, computer screens, and many other devices that serve to convert data from electrical to nonelectrical domains are called output transducers. The digital voltmeter of the fluorometer of Figure 1 -3 is a rather complex output transducer that converts the voltage K to a number on a liquid-crystal display so that it may be read and interpreted by the user of the instrument. We shall consider the detailed nature of the digital voltmeter and various other electrical circuits and signals in Chapters 2 through 4. [Pg.12]

A 1024 multichannel analyser (Nuclear Data Model ND 100) incorporating an analogue to digital convertor (ND 500) displays the emitted spectrum on an oscilloscope screen.
