Relative stabilities and reactivities of the two metalloporphyrins can be observed by comparison of the parameters. The alkylation index shows that vanadyl chelation promotes transalkylation relative to nickel. On the other hand, nickel porphyrins are degraded more rapidly through the loss of metiiylene groups and/or etio series generation than vanadyl porphyrins. Alkylated aromatics have excellent low temperature fluidity and low pour points. The viscosity indexes are lower than most mineral oils. These materials are less volatile than comparably viscous mineral oils, and more stable to high temperatures, hydrolysis, and nuclear radiation.
