Alcohols, secondary, oxidation with poly

With Alcohols. These reactions parallel those of ethylene oxide with water. The primary products are monoethers of ethylene glycol secondary products are monoethers of poly(ethylene glycol) (42). Most are appreciably water-soluble. [Pg.453]

Surface modifications of polymers is brought about by the introduction of alcohol functionality, e.g., poly(tetrafluoroethylene-co-hexafluoropropylene) on reduction with sodium naphthalide in THF results in an unsaturated modified surface layer, the thickness of which is controlled with reaction time and temperature. The air sensitive surface contains alcohols, ketones, aliphatic C-H bonds in addition to C=C and C C. The more alcoholic groups are introduced by hydroboration-oxidation, but the esterification leads to the formation of ester in lower yield. This reveals that the reactivity of OH group is similar to hindered alcohols. The reactivity of the surface can be enhanced by chain extension of secondary surface alcohols with ethylene oxide to form a surface containing primary alcohols groups separated from the polymer backbone by C-2 spacer. On the other hand, primary alcohols are directly introduced to the surface by reaction of the reduced layer with 9-BBN, followed by carbonylation and reduction [5]. [Pg.322]

Poly(vinylpyridinium) chlorochromate (PVPCC) is obtained as a liright-orange solid by adding chromium trioxide and concentrated hydrochloric acid to an aqueous suspension of cross-linked poly(vinylpyridine) (PVP) resin (50-100 mesh). Oxidations of primary and secondary alcohols to carbonyl compounds are carried out on heating with a slight excess of the resin at 75-80 °C. The reaction is best carried out in cyclohexane [612]. [Pg.23]

Oxidations Metal-catalyzed aerobic oxidation of organic compounds has been reviewed. Aerial oxidation of primary and secondary alcohols is mediated by TEMPO in the presence of HCl and NaN02- Secondary benzylic alcohols undergo aerial oxidation (or with r-BuOOH) based on catalysis by AuCl - neocuproine," but another report describes the oxidation of both primary and secondary alcohols (to acids and ketones, respectively) using nanoclusters of gold that are stabilized by poly(A-vinyl-2-pyrtolidone). ... [Pg.310]

From cross linked poly(vinylpyridine) by treatment with CrO, O. i 20S Oxidation of primary, secondary, benzylic and aliylic alcohols to aldehydes and ketones. [Pg.64]

Polmer-snpported IBX Reagents. Two different phenoxide linked polymer-based IBX reagents have been developed. The silica supported reagent (Poly-IBX) is used in THE The oxidation rate increases relative to DMSO as solvent. The primary alcohol in the cyclohexanol may be oxidized preferentially, and thus avoid formation of the cyclohexanone expected from the secondary alcohol (eq 8). This selectively is retained even with a threefold... [Pg.207]

Polymers of = 1600—6500 with polydispersity 1.2—2.8 were prepared by addition of diolefins with dithiols and the following two-phase oxidation of the resulting polydisulfides. The effective oxidation (up to 92% of sulfoxide units) of polysulfides was conducted by using aqueous hydrogen peroxide in chloroform with or without heating. The formation of polysulfoxides was strongly supported by spectroscopic analysis. Poly(hexamethylene sulfoxide) obtained in this way was subject to Swern oxidation of primary or secondary alcohols, in which 1-octanol [111-87-5] and 6-undecanol [23708-56-7] were oxidized to give 1-octanal [124-13-0] and 6-undecanone [927-49-1], respectively, in quantitative yields (18). [Pg.8003]
