Air stripper

Types of air strippers include packed towers, tray towers, and spray towers. Packed towers are packed or filled with small forms made of polyethylene [9002-88-4] stainless steel, poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) [9002-86-2] or ceramic that provide large surface area to volume ratios which increase transfer rates into the air stream. Packed towers operate in countercurrent mode, that is, the aqueous stream enters at the top of the tower while air is blown in from the bottom. An example of this type of unit is shown in Figure 1. Channeling or short circuiting of the aqueous stream is minimized by... [Pg.159]

Groundwater contaminated with chlorinated hydrocarbons is being remediated by a conventional air stripper or a rotary stripper, producing an air stream containing the halogenated hydrocarbon vapors and saturated with water vapor (45), which is then passed through a catalyst bed. [Pg.512]

Three major sources in the kraft process are responsible for the majority of the H2S emissions. These involve the gaseous waste streams leaving the recovery furnace, the evaporator and the air stripper, respectively denoted by R), R2 and R3. Stream data for the gaseous wastes are summarized in Table 8.8. Several candidate MSAs are screened. These include three process MSAs and three external MSAs. The process MSAs are the white, the green and the black liquors (referred to as Si, S2 and S3, respectively). The external MSAs include diethanolamine (DBA), S4. activated carbon, Sj, and 30 wt% hot potassium carbonate solution, S6. Stream data for the MSAs is summarized in Table 8.9. Syndiesize a MOC REAMEN that can accomplish the desulfurization task for the three waste streams. [Pg.213]

It is demonstrated in the pilot tests that TCE can be removed by 99% for the direct contact exposure route within 3 to 5 yr using the vapor extraction system. The potential for fugitive losses of air contaminants would be minimal under good control conditions. A countercurrent packed tower air stripper (13.72 m tall and 1.22 m in diameter) would be used to treat the extracted groundwater to meet the performance goal of 5 pg/L TCE concentration. The exhaust air would be discharged through carbon beds for adsorption. [Pg.648]

This alternative includes components of Alternatives 3 and 4 and introduces a thermal destruction component to address the TCE-contaminated soil. For the site remediation case shown in Figure 16.21, the lead-contaminated soil in Area 1 would be fixed and covered with a soil/clay cap, as described in Alternative 4. The groundwater would be addressed through pumping and treating, via an air stripper, as described in Alternatives 3 and 4. The TCE-contaminated soil in Area 2 would be excavated and treated on site by a thermal destruction unit comprisng a mobilized rotary kiln. [Pg.648]

Alternative 2 is the simplest system to construct and operate. Alternative 3 is fairly simple with regard to construction requirements but has more operational requirements than Alternatives 1 and 2 because of the adoption of the SVE system and the air stripper. Alternative 4 is more complex than Alternative 3 because of the inclusion of in situ soil fixation components. [Pg.657]

The water may be treated with on-site air strippers and carbon adsorption filtration systems. [Pg.713]

Contaminant mass transport in an air stripper is schematically shown in Figure 18.12. The removal process can be described mathematically by a mass balance for the contaminant assuming that there is no change in the accumulated contaminant in the stripper under steady-state conditions ... [Pg.722]

The gas pressure drop is a function of the gas and liquid flow rates and the size and type of packing. It relates to the overall cost of the air stripper and to its performance. The gas pressure drop through a stripping unit can be determined from the pressure drop curve. [Pg.724]

Most states require the capture and treatment of air stripper off-gas. Typical off-gas treatment technologies that are applicable to MTBE and other oxygenates are adsorption, thermal treatment, and biotreatment. [Pg.1038]

Alternative 2 consists of preliminary treatment followed by dual-media pressure filtration, and two-stage air stripping (Figure 8.4). The preliminary treatment step for iron removal would be exactly the same as specified under Alternative 1. The filters would be recommended to remove suspended matter and particulate iron prior to the air strippers. The required filtration capacity could be provided with either a duplex system of two 60-in.-diameter filters or a triplex system of three 42-in-diameter filters. [Pg.253]
